Usain Bolt loses over $12 million from his investment account, Jamaican sprinter’s lawyer threatens to take legal action

The track and field star’s lawyer said that the account was part of Bolt’s retirement and lifetime savings.

Jamaican Olympic sprinter Usain Bolt has reportedly lost more than $12 million from his savings account with a private investment firm, Kingston-based investment firm Stocks and Securities Ltd. (SSL) in Jamaica.

Bolt’s lawyer, Linton P Gordon, said the Olympic sprinter’s account once had $12.8 million but now reflects a balance of only $12,000. Gordon has demanded that the SSL return Bolt’s money within 10 days. They even threatened to take civil and criminal action against the firm if the money is not returned within a certain time limit.

The eight-time Olympic gold winner, who retired in 2017, holds the world records for the 100 meters, 200 meters and 4×100 meters. The track and field star’s lawyer said that the account was part of Bolt’s retirement and lifetime savings. Bolt had J$2 billion in his account on October 31, 2022, while the amount became J$1.8 million (S$12,000) on January 11, 2023, according to reports.

Calling it a grave disappointment, Gordon said It’s distressing news for anyone, and certainly in the case of Bolt, who established this account as part of his private pension. He further said that they hope that the matter is resolved as quickly as possible so that Bolt can recover his money and be able to live in peace.

SSL announced in a statement on January 12 that it had learned of fraudulent behaviour by a former employee and had reported the situation to law enforcement. It also added that it has taken measures to secure assets and tighten protocols.

Jamaica’s finance minister, Nigel Clarke, called the situation alarming. He said SSL had allegedly committed alarming and evil fraud and that authorities would bring all perpetrators to justice.

Saurav Ghoshal, Abhay Singh, and Mahesh Mangaonkar of India’s men’s squash team completed an incredible comeback to win India’s second squash gold medal at the Asian Games.

After losing the first round, the Indians were down 0-1 before Saurav Ghoshal orchestrated a comeback and Abhay Singh won his best-of-five match by 3-2 in a nail-biter. The triumph helped India win the best-of-three gold medal match 2-1.

After the first two bouts failed to distinguish the two bitter rivals, Abhay Singh faced Noor Zaman in the championship match. The last game of the five-game match between the two superstars was decided by a single point. In the fifth and final game, Abhay was down 8-10 and facing certain defeat. There was no room for error because India could have lost the gold medal with just one point.

However, Abhay showed steely strength to save those two points and go on to win the championship game 12-10. After winning a gold in the 2014 men’s competition, this is India’s second gold medal in squash at the Asiad.

Mahesh Mangaonkar and Saurav Ghoshal played their matches before to Abhay Singh’s match. Mahesh lost three games in a row, which was a devastating setback. Then Ghoshal took matters into his own hands. The renowned Indian talent defeated Muhamad Asim of Pakistan in three straight games, 3-0. After then, Abhay Singh joined the group and contributed to the historic match.

Esha Singh, Palak, and Divya Thadigol, members of the Indian women’s 10m air pistol squad, won silver yesterday in the team competition at the 2018 Asian Games.

Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar, Swapnil Sunil Kusale, and Akhil Sheoran’s men’s squad quickly followed suit by winning gold in the men’s 50m rifle 3P team competition.

After losing 1-2 against Hong Kong in the semifinals, the Indian women’s squash team, comprised of Joshna Chinappa, Tanvi Khanna, and Anahat Singh, won bronze.

On Day 7 of the ongoing Asian Games 2023 in Hangzhou on Saturday, India won a silver medal in the shooting competition. Sarabjot Singh and Divya TS of India lost to China by a razor-thin margin in the mixed team final of the 10m air pistol.

The Indians defeated 14-16 after a thrilling game. Jyothi Yarraji Nithya Ramraj and Murali Sreeshankar have both advanced to the finals of their respective athletic events: the women’s 100m hurdles and the men’s long jump, respectively.

Aditi Ashok, who is in contention for a medal in women’s golf, finished the day in first place in individual round 3. India also won the third round of the women’s team golf competition.

India plays Pakistan in two significant matches as well. Later in the day, the two men’s hockey teams square off against one another in a game that could determine who advances to the semi-finals. The two men’s squash teams will compete for gold in the final.

Olympic bronze medal-winning boxer Lovlina Borgohain also begins her campaign in the women’s 75kg quarterfinal while the Indian men’s badminton team takes on South Korea in the semifinal. Olympic silver medalist Mirabai Chanu competes in the women’s 49 kg weightlifting event as well. She hasn’t received a medal from the Asian Games yet.

In the tennis mixed doubles finals, Liang En-shuo and Huang Tsung-hao of Chinese Taipei will compete against Rohan Bopanna and Rutuja Bhosale.

Meanwhile, Neeraj Chopra, an Olympic gold medallist, said his confidence in his ability to perform well in his upcoming final match on October 4. He said, I’m doing fine. There is a good vibe around here.He further said, his most recent victory was a gold medal in the Asian Games. I’m taking part once again this time, he added.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday congratulated Divya Thadigol, Esha Singh and Palak on winning Silver Medal in the 10m Air pistol Women’s team event. Indian shooter Esha Singh led her team to a silver medal in women’s 10m air pistol event at the Asian Games. The trio, Esha Singh, Palak and Divya TS secured a total of 1731 points for the silver medal.

Taking to X, formerly Twitter, Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Divya Thadigol, Esha Singh and Palak on winning a silver medal in the 10m Air Pistol Women’s team event. He added that their success will motivate several upcoming sportspersons.

The Prime Minister also congratulated Swapmil Kusale, Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar and Akhil Sheoran for emerging victorious in Men’s 50m Rifle 3Ps team event at the Asian Games. He expressed that this is a stupendous win along with a prestigious gold and a world record. He added that the players have shown exceptional determination and teamwork. 

Earlier on Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the Indian women’s Shooting team of Manu Bhaker, Rhythm Sangwan and Esha Singh for winning the gold medal in 25m Pistol event at the Asian Games 2023.

Congratulating the 25m Pistol Women Team, comprising Manu Bhaker, Rhythm Sangwan and Esha Singh, for their spectacular victory, Prime Minister Modi wrote on social media platform, X that it is an exemplary Gold for India. He added that their remarkable teamwork has yielded great results and conveyed best wishes for their future endeavours.

Notably, Esha Singh’s performance at the Asian Games has been remarkable. She not only contributed to the women’s 10m air pistol team’s silver medal but also bagged an individual silver medal in the women’s individual 25m pistol event earlier in the week. Her achievements at the Asian Games highlight her potential and the promising future of Indian shooting on the international stage.
