World Cup IND vs. SL: Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli on Thursday, November 2, passed Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma as the third Indian batsman to reach 1000 runs in One-Day Internationals (ODIs) in 2023. In the 50-over format this year, he also became the fourth batter to reach the 1000-run milestone, behind Rohit, Gill, and Pathum Nissanka.

In his 23rd match of 2023, Kohli reached the milestone. Meanwhile, the 34-year-old surpassed Sachin Tendulkar’s record for the most ODI years with 1000 runs. Eight times in his career, Kohli has scored a thousand runs in a calendar year: in 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2023.

However, Sachin scored more than a thousand runs seven times (1994, 1996, 1997, 1998, 2000, 2003, and 2007). In the famous Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, during the World Cup 2023 match against Sri Lanka, Kohli scored the 34 runs he required to reach the milestone.

With the exception of his duck against England at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow, Kohli has been outstanding. At the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) Stadium in Pune, India defeated Bangladesh by seven wickets thanks to the undefeated hundred from the Delhi-born batsman.

The Men in Blue defeated Tom Latham’s New Zealand side by four wickets at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) Stadium in Pune after he made 95 runs.

In addition, Kohli scored impressive half-centuries in victories over Afghanistan and Australia. Virat recently became the fourth batter in international cricket history to reach the 26000 run mark, behind Tendulkar, Kumar Sangakkara, and Ricky Ponting. It goes without saying that for the past fifteen or so years, Virat has been the cornerstone of the Indian batting lineup.

Meanwhile, in today’s match Sri Lanka won the toss and opted to bowl against India first. On the points table Sri Lanka stands on the 7th position while India is at 2nd postion. If India wins today’s match they will directly enter to semi-final.

Push for red-ball cricket: BCCI to hike Test match fee

The BCCI currently pays INR 15 lakh for a Test, INR 6 lakh for an ODI, and INR 3 lakh for a T20I.

The Board of Control For Cricket in India (BCCI) intends to increase the payments for Test matches as a result of players’ increasing preference for playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) over the longest format of the game, according to a report.

The fee structure has been revised by the cricket board in response to Ishan Kishan’s withdrawal from domestic cricket. The Indian wicketkeeper batter has been working with the Pandya brothers in Barodra, Gujarat, ahead of the IPL, which is scheduled to begin later this month, despite the management’s requests for him to play domestic cricket.

According to a source, BCCI is currently deciding how much more money will be given to a player who participates in every Test series for the whole of the season.

For instance, in addition to the yearly retainer contract, an individual should receive additional benefits if they participate in every Test series over a given year. This is to guarantee that more players show up for red-ball cricket. According to a source, this would be an additional perk of playing Test cricket.

The BCCI currently pays INR 15 lakh for a Test, INR 6 lakh for an ODI, and INR 3 lakh for a T20I.

According to a report, if the new salary structure is approved, it will be implemented after the current IPL season.

However, Rohit Sharma-led team India was engaged in a five-match Test series against England, which the home team had already won yesterday. Prominent players such as Mohammed Shami and Virat Kohli have missed this series due to injury and personal reasons, respectively.

Meanwhile, the team will play in the Indian Premier League (IPL) following this Test series, and after the end of the cash-rich league, Team India will head to the United States for the upcoming T20 World Cup.

Hardik Pandya returned to the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru last week, where he participated in match simulations as part of a fitness test.

The captain of the Mumbai Indians, Hardik Pandya, is leading the Reliance 1 team in the DY Patil T20 tournament, marking his eagerly anticipated comeback to cricket. Since sustaining an ankle injury during India’s ICC Cricket World Cup group stage match against Bangladesh in October of last year, Pandya has not participated in any international cricket matches for the team India.

Pandya was not present for the home series of five T20 internationals against Australia, nor for the three ODI and three T20I matches that made up the journey to South Africa. In Pandya’s absence, top-ranked T20I batsman Suryakumar Yadav donned the role of captain.

Hardik Pandya returned to the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru last week, where he participated in match simulations as part of a fitness test. He started training for the DY Patil T20 Cup in preparation of the IPL 2024 after passing the fitness tests.

Ahead of the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season, Pandya was moved from the Gujarat Titans (GT) to the Mumbai Indians (MI) in November last year. Former MI captain Rohit Sharma, who has won five IPL trophies for the team, has been replaced by Hardik Pandya in the 2024 season of the famous league.

With players like Tilak Verma, Nehal Wadhera, Akash Madhwal, and Piyush Chawla, Pandya is in charge of a superstar-studded lineup. With Pandya leading the team, these players will play for MI.

However, Rohit Sharma will be captaining the team in the upcoming T20 World Cup, which is scheduled to take place in the USA and the West Indies in June, with the intention of putting an end to India’s ICC trophy drought.

Meanwhile, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah earlier announced that Rohit Sharma will lead the Men in Blue in the ICC T20 World Cup. He also voiced hope that Team India will emerge victorious in the T20 cricket tournament and break their ten-year trophy drought under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy.

England was unable to save a five-match series against India, after falling short by five wickets in the fourth Test match in Ranchi today. India’s commanding 3-1 series lead proved to be enough to seal the Test series defeat for Ben Stokes’ team.

India, dubbed the “final frontier” of bazball, proved to be a tough Test for the Brendon McCullum team, who faced harsh criticism for their batting strategy during this series. India won the 17th consecutive Test series, maintaining their winning streak in home Tests. In the red-ball version of the game, the squad increased their record for the most consecutive series victories at home.

The last test series which India lost agains England was in 2012 when Alastair Cook captained the English team. India has won every home match they have played since losing the series by 2-1. India hasn’t even drawn a Test series since their defeat by England in 2012.

India’s start to the current series had not been good. After losing the opening game in Hyderabad, Rohit Sharma’s squad reamined unbeatable even without a number of key players for the next 3-matches. The Indian squad proved to be very resilient, winning three straight games in Ranchi, Rajkot, and Vizag.

On the tricky Ranchi track, England won a vital toss and chose to bat first. With the help of an incredible century from Joe Root, they scored 353 runs in the opening half. India scored 307 runs in their first innings of replying. Jaiswal put up a spectacular 73, but Jurel was the real standout for India, scoring a solid 90 and creating important alliances with Kuldeep and Akash Deep to cut into England’s lead.

Meanwhile, the most impressive bowler was Shoaib Bashir, who took his first five wicket haul despite giving up 119 runs in 44 overs.
