Kerala reports first monkeypox death, probe ordered

The 22-year-old, a native of Punniyoor in Thrissur, died on Saturday afternoon at a private hospital days after he returned from the United Arab Emirates (UAE). This would be the first death in India and the fourth outside Africa.

His burial was held as per the protocol for victims of monkeypox. All his primary contacts have been placed under observation, the report said.

The deceased person had tested positive in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), state Health Minister Veena George said. The state’s health department sent his samples to the Kerala unit of the National Institute of Virology in Alappuzha.

The youth had no symptoms of monkeypox. He had been admitted to the hospital with symptoms of encephalitis and fatigue. His relatives handed over the test result only on Saturday. A high-level probe would be held into the death as monkeypox has a very low fatality rate, the minister said.

The minister said the youth had been diagnosed with monkeypox after testing positive but his family members handed over the test results to the hospital authorities on Saturday. The youth had reached Kerala from the UAE on July 22, the health department of the state said.

The monkeypox outbreak has seen more than 22,000 cases in nearly 80 countries since May. There have been 75 suspected deaths in Africa, mostly in Nigeria and Congo, where a more lethal form of the infection is spreading than in the West

CUET PG 2022 result declared: Ways to check result, how to calculate percentile, marking scheme

The National Testing Agency has announced the result of the Central University Entrance Test (CUET) for Post Graduate (PG) programs for 2022. Candidates who had appeared for the exam can check their results on the official website of CUET at cuet.nta.nic.in or at ntaresults.nic.in.

Nearly 3.6 lakh candidates, including 1.8 lakh males and 1.7 lakh females, applied for the CUET PG 2022 exam. Over 55 percent of them appeared for the exam. The CUET PG 2022 scorecard will only be applicable for the session 2022-23.

How to check CUET PG 2022 result?

Visit the official website of CUET at cuet.nta.nic.in.
A link to download the CUET PG scorecard will pop up on the homepage, tap on it.
Enter the application number and date of birth.
Submit and check the result.
Download the scorecard for future reference.

CUET PG 2022: How to calculate percentile?

In the CUET PG, the percentile score is determined by multiplying 100 by the number of candidates that showed up for the session and had raw scores that were either equal to or lower than the candidate.

CUET PG 2022 Marking Scheme

Each question in CUET PG 2022 carries 4 marks. For every right answer, the candidate will get 4 marks, while for every negative answer, 1 mark will be deducted. No marks will be given for unanswered or unattempted responses.

For multiple correct options, candidates will be given 4 marks if they have attempted correctly as per the final answer key. If the question is dropped, 4 marks will be given to all the candidates.

Uttar Pradesh: French woman finds herself naked in bed after her drink was spiked by guide in Varanasi, probe underway

In a shocking incident, a French woman found herself naked in bed after her drink was spiked by a man who posed as a local guide in Uttar Pradesh’s Varanasi.

Reports say the woman tourist from France suffered serious stomach illness after her drink was spiked by a man before she was leaving for her home on Sunday. Following the incident, the woman filed an FIR under Section 328 (causing hurt by means of poison with intent to commit an offence) of the Indian Penal Code with the Bhelupur police.

In her complaint, the victim alleged that she fell unconscious after consuming the drink and found herself naked on her bed in the guest house room when she woke up the next morning. She also suffered serious stomach problems including loose motions, vomiting, and pain, reports said.

Reports further stated that the victim met the accused person during her stay in Varanasi and he took her to multiple places in the tourist city for sightseeing. On her last day in Varanasi, the accused took her to a restaurant and offered beer after mixing it with local alcohol. The victim also informed that she fell unconscious after consuming the beer and found herself undressed the next morning.

The local police have ordered a probe and the investigation is underway. The name of the accused has not been revealed by the police yet.

A similar incident took place in August 2022 wherein a woman was raped in Delhi after her friend mixed sedatives in her cold drink and shot the video of the incident. The accused also used the video to blackmail the victim for the next few months.

Reports said the victim met the accused Sameer through Instagram in 2018. The duo became friends and they met in a flat owned by the accused. Following this, he offered her a spiked cold drink and raped her. He later shot the video of the crime and blackmailed her into having a sexual relationship with him. The incident came to light in August this year.

A video of a Police commissioner continuously assaulting and abusing a man has been making rounds on the internet. The video shows the police personnel unloading slap after slap on the man while abusing him in UP’s Amroha district. The police personnel in the video was reportedly intoxicated when the event transpired.

In the video, a group of police officers can be seen confronting a man where the police are asking which staff he is from. The man can be heard replying that he is not from any staff. A man, who is not visible in the video, can be urging the man to apologize and move on. After having enough of the man’s banter, the deputy commissioner of police resorted to violence and abuse toward the man.

The Amroha Police Twitter account has come forward to clarify that the concerned Deputy Commissioner in the matter has been suspended with immediate effect. The police further added that a thorough investigation is being carried out by the jurisdictional line.

The video has been making rounds on the internet as many Twitter users came forward asking questions about the state of affairs in UP police. One user came forward and remarked that this is the UP police and no one dares to speak up against them while adding that if one does speak up, this is what is done to them.

Another user came forward and remarked that this is not a police officer but a street thug and added that the police personnel’s choice of words would also echo in his household, implying toward the arbitrary use of power by the inspector and also remarking on his uncivil tongue.

A video of a similar nature went viral from UP’s Baghpatt district recently where a man who had approached the police to file a missing complaint of his niece was slapped by a Binoli Police inspector. Subsequently, after the video went viral, the police personnel faced actions against him as a probe was ordered by the administration.
