More than 55,000 people ran the 18th Tata Mumbai Marathon but who stood out among them was an 80-year-old woman. The woman named Bharti Jitendra Pathak, clad in a Saree, finished the 4.2 km marathon in 51 minutes.
The woman served as an inspiration for the young generation by finishing this iconic marathon, which returned after a two-year break, much thanks to Covid-19.

Over 55,000 participants took part in the 18th running of the renowned Tata Mumbai Marathon, which was conducted on Sunday. Mumbai residents from all socioeconomic backgrounds ran together for various social causes. Children, people with disabilities, and senior residents joined in the marathon as well as young people.

Dimple Mehta Fernandes, the elderly woman’s granddaughter, posted a video of her grandmother running the marathon on Instagram. In the video, the 80-year-old woman is seen running the marathon in a saree and sneakers while holding the tricolour. In 51 minutes, she completed 4.2 kilometres.
She captioned the video, “So inspired by the sheer will and grit of my 80-year-old Nani who ran the TATA Marathon this Sunday.”
The video also includes a brief chat with a woman who claims to have been training for the marathon every day and to be competing in it for the fifth time. She responded that she is pleased to be an Indian and wants people to be aware of her national identity when asked why she carried the Tiranga during the marathon. Additionally, the elderly woman counselled the youth to walk about and run more for their health.
Her dedication to fitness was an inspiration to viewers of the video, and many praised her passion and vitality. So inspiring and thrilled to see her run, one user commented. Age is nothing but a number! What a star, someone else said. Wow! A third person added, this is inspiring.
