Friendship trailer: Tim Robinson, Paul Rudd ignite suburban bromance chaos in A24’s latest release

Supporting performances come from notable actors such as Kate Mara, Jack Dylan Grazer, Josh Segarra, and Billy Bryk, all adding depth to the narrative.

A24 has unveiled the first trailer for Friendship, a quirky and offbeat comedy starring Tim Robinson and Paul Rudd. Scheduled for a theatrical release in May, the film will debut earlier at SXSW on March 9, following its successful screening in the Midnight Madness section of the Toronto International Film Festival last September. The initial reactions have been positive, generating considerable anticipation for its wide release.

In Friendship, Tim Robinson takes on the role of Craig, an ordinary suburban dad who becomes captivated by the effortlessly cool vibe of his new neighbour, played by Paul Rudd. Although Craig’s intention is to form a wholesome friendship with Rudd’s character, their interactions quickly escalate from innocent attempts at connection to a chaotic situation that threatens to unravel both their lives.

This unexpected turn leads the audience through a comedic journey filled with awkward moments and outrageous scenarios, defining the essence of the film. Supporting performances come from notable actors such as Kate Mara, Jack Dylan Grazer, Josh Segarra, and Billy Bryk, all adding depth to the narrative.

The film marks the feature directorial debut of Andrew DeYoung, who also penned the screenplay. Notably, Friendship signifies Robinson’s first leading role in a film. Prior to this, Robinson gained acclaim for his Emmy-winning Netflix series I Think You Should Leave, where he showcased his unique, absurd comedic style. This approach is evident in Friendship, promising audiences plenty of humour rooted in the awkwardness of adult male relationships.

Meanwhile, Paul Rudd brings his established comedic chops and charm to the project, enhancing the film’s appeal. With a successful track record from beloved films like Anchorman and I Love You, Man, along with his role as Ant-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Rudd’s presence adds another layer of excitement. With A24 behind this project and strong early buzz from festival screenings, Friendship is shaping up to be one of the most talked-about comedies of the year. Fans of quirky humour and distinctive storytelling won’t want to miss it.
