The perfume brand, Layer’s Shot, has fallen into a massive controversy over two of its advertisement promoting rape culture.

One of its advertisements shows four men at a supermarket having a conversation when a woman approaches. They notice the last remaining bottle of the Layer’s perfume and discuss within themselves who will take the shot since there are four men and only one bottle. The woman turns back in anger at them as she thinks they are talking about her.

Following the outrage on social media, the Ministry of Information and Broadcast Ministry on Saturday asked YouTube and Twitter to take down the advertisements. In letters to both the platforms, the I & B Ministry said that the videos were detrimental to the portrayal of women in the interest of decency and morality and in violation of Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code).

Well, this is not the first time when an advertisement led out with a problematic message. India has a history of regressive advertisements. Let’s have a look.

Himmat Singh makes his IPL 2025 debut with Lucknow Super Giants as Mitchell Marsh’s replacement

With Marsh’s return uncertain, Singh’s debut could be a turning point, not just for his career but also for LSG’s campaign.

In a significant moment for his career, 28-year-old Delhi batsman Himmat Singh has secured his first Indian Premier League (IPL) call-up, joining the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for their match against the Gujarat Titans. Singh steps into the playing XI as a replacement for Australian star Mitchell Marsh, who is unavailable due to his daughter’s illness, marking a notable debut opportunity for the young talent.

Marsh’s absence is a blow for LSG, given his stellar form in IPL 2025. Currently third in the Orange Cap race, Marsh has amassed 265 runs in five matches, with four half-centuries and a single duck, making him a key pillar of the team’s batting lineup.

Who is Himmat Singh?

Hailing from Delhi, Himmat Singh brings a robust T20 resume to the IPL stage. With 55 T20 matches for Delhi under his belt, he has scored 917 runs at an electrifying strike rate of 133. His recent domestic performances have turned heads, particularly in the 2024 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, India’s premier T20 domestic tournament, where he smashed 197 runs in eight innings at a strike rate of 148.

Singh also made waves in the Delhi Premier League, racking up 381 runs in 10 innings, placing him among the tournament’s top scorers. Only Priyansh Arya and Singh’s new LSG teammate Ayush Badoni outscored him. Notably, Arya has already left a mark in IPL 2025, hammering a century for Punjab Kings against Chennai Super Kings, setting a high bar for Singh to emulate.

Spotlight on the debutant

As Himmat Singh prepares to take the field, expectations are high for the Delhi batter to seize this chance to shine. His aggressive batting style and proven consistency in domestic circuits make him a promising addition to LSG’s lineup. Fans are eager to see if Singh can replicate Arya’s IPL heroics and deliver a standout performance on one of cricket’s biggest stages.

With Marsh’s return uncertain, Singh’s debut could be a turning point, not just for his career but also for LSG’s campaign.

Jaat box office collection Day 2: Sunny Deol action drama earns Rs 20 crore

The film marks the Hindi directorial debut of Gopichand Malineni, who is well-known in the Telugu film industry.

The film “Jaat,” starring Sunny Deol, has made a significant impact at the domestic box office, raking in an impressive ₹20.1 crore gross over its first two days of release. Directed by Gopichand Malineni, the movie hit theaters on April 10 and garnered ₹11.6 crore on its opening day alone. This strong performance indicates a positive reception from the audience, though the film has received a mix of reviews from critics.

The production company Mythri Movie Makers shared the box office collection figures on their official X account, creating buzz around the film’s success. “Jaat” not only features Sunny Deol but also includes talented actors such as Randeep Hooda, Vineet Kumar Singh, and Saiyami Kher, contributing to a strong ensemble cast. The film marks the Hindi directorial debut of Gopichand Malineni, who is well-known in the Telugu film industry.

Despite its commercial success, “Jaat” has elicited mixed feedback from viewers and critics alike. A review from The Hindu highlighted some concerns, noting that the current trend in Telugu masala films, particularly in Gopichand’s storytelling, often leans heavily towards style over substance. According to the review, this imbalance can overshadow the narrative depth, leading to a loss of cultural specificity, particularly when Northern and Southern cinematic elements are intertwined.

The review also pointed out the film’s explicit portrayal of violence, mentioning graphic scenes that depict severed heads and manipulative narratives involving crimes against children, women, and the elderly. Such elements can detract from the overall viewing experience, raising questions about the handling of sensitive subjects in cinema.

In addition to his work on “Jaat,” Sunny Deol is currently engaged in another exciting project titled “Lahore 1947,” which also stars Aamir Khan and Preity Zinta. Directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and produced by Aamir Khan Productions, this film is highly anticipated.

Randeep Hooda is also busy with another venture, “Matchbox,” which features John Cena and is directed by Sam Hargrave, known for his work on “Extraction” and “Avengers: Endgame.” The future looks bright for both actors as they continue to take on diverse and compelling roles in their careers.

On Saturday, actor Jaaved Jaaferi revealed that his X account had been hacked, taking to Instagram to alert his fans and encourage them to report the security breach to the platform. Jaaferi shared screenshots illustrating his inability to regain access to his account, emphasizing the significance of maintaining security on social media.

In his post, Jaaferi communicated his distress over the situation, revealing that he has been unable to use his profile since the unauthorized access occurred. He recently starred in Avinash Das’ film Inn Galiyon Mein, which has been well-received. Fans can look forward to seeing him in an upcoming project, Dhamaal 4, where he will reprise his role in the popular franchise.

Unfortunately, Jaaferi is not alone in this struggle. In recent weeks, other high-profile personalities have also experienced similar security breaches. Notably, renowned singer Shreya Ghoshal and actress Swara Bhasker have had their X accounts hacked. Thankfully, both of their accounts have been restored following the incidents.

Shreya Ghoshal used her platform to warn her fans about potential scams, stating, “Please avoid clicking on any links or responding to any messages that appear to come from my account; these are all spam and phishing attempts. I will update you personally through a video once my account is secure again.” Her proactive approach highlights the importance of vigilance in the face of these growing threats.

Meanwhile, Swara Bhasker has expressed her frustration regarding the permanent suspension of her X account. She stated, “Two images from two tweets have been cited as ‘copyright infringements.’ As a result, my account is locked, and a permanent suspension has been approved by the teams. There has been no copyright violation on my part; it’s akin to urban modern folk idiom.” Her comments underscore the sometimes arbitrary nature of alleged copyright infringements on social media.

As more celebrities face similar security struggles, the conversation surrounding digital safety and accountability continues to gain importance.
