Angry Pakistani protesters went on a rampage and destroyed trucks full of tomatoes because the tomatoes were imported from Iran, and were therefore deemed to be Shia.

The protesters have stopped vehicles carrying imported tomatoes from Iran in Kalat district of Pakistan’s Balochistan province with some of them having been looted or destroyed, officials said on Sunday.

A video of Pakistani protesters, in which tomatoes are being unloaded from a truck and destroyed on road, is doing rounds on social media.

The protesters have been destroying tomatoes because the vegetable came from Iran, a Shia Muslim-dominated country in West Asia and Muslim religious leaders have called tomatoes as Kafir, an insulting term used by some Muslims for non-Muslims.

This video is from the Balochistan province of Pakistan’s Kalat district.

In the edited video, a person who could be a news reporter, can be seen saying that the tomatoes and the onions have come from Iran as a help, but some of the Maulvis have ordered to destroy these vegetables calling them Shia.

The protesters have been destroying tomatoes and onions at a time when Pakistan is battling hunger, poverty and flood and the Pakistan government is constantly pleading for help from the international community.

This comes after the Pakistan government allowed the imports of vegetables from Iran and Afghanistan to meet the shortages caused by floods in the country.

I just surrendered,” she explained.

She emphasized the importance of surrendering to the director’s vision and the rigorous preparation involved, particularly mastering the nuances of the language. Extensive rehearsals and unwavering dedication were key to bringing the character to life, she stressed.
