Unlocking Delhi, the Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced that the Delhi metro will operate with 50% capacity, while markets and malls will be open on an odd-even basis.
Under the new guidelines, the essential item shops and chemists can open on all days while the odd-even rule does not apply to them. For public sector offices, Category A employees can work on all days, but all categories under them can only work to 50% capacity. This needs to be followed strictly.
As and when the situation keeps improving, more relaxations will be announced. This is what is being done currently
The unlocking measures will come in force from June 7. With a dip seen in active Covid-19 cases, Delhi had begun the unlocking process from May 31 with factories and the construction sector to resume operations.
The new guidelines issued by the Delhi government said that the traders and businesses in Delhi have been constantly demanding to open the markets, as the city is a standstill for more than one and half months. The government and private offices have been allowed to resume operations with 50% staff.
Delhi is among the states to have been the worst hit by the devastating second Covid wave in the past few months. Big and small medical facilities of Delhi began to give up as basic resources like oxygen, beds, drugs, and vaccine ran out.
The court cases were fought over supplies to the city and the Centre and other state governments became involved over diversion of stocks meant for the national capital.
The national capital has been under lockdown since April 19 in view of the massive surge in Covid-19 cases in the second wave of the pandemic. The city’s healthcare infrastructure and crematoriums were hugely overburdened. The situation has, however, improved significantly.
Now the infection rate of COVID in Delhi has come down to less than one percent. In the last 24 hours, 523 fresh COVID-19 cases and 50 deaths have been recorded in the national capital.
However, the daily number was a bit higher than the day before when Delhi reported 487 COVID cases. The number of active cases in Delhi stands at 8,060. The new fatalities pushed the COVID death toll in Delhi to 24,497.

As for the third wave, the state is preparing well to ensure not to caught unaware when there is a third wave. The government is also making provisions for children and are setting up a panel for it as well as a task force to track a possible third wave.
The government have faced a severe shortage of oxygen and increasing the oxygen infrastructure in the national capital.
