The man of few words, Indian director Mani Ratnam is all geared up for the release of his upcoming period drama Ponniyin Selvan Part 1. And during a recent media interaction, the director talked about everything, from the downfall of Bollywood to his movie, the director reiterated this facts.

Mani Ratnam had initiated this big project even before the Pandemic had hit India, but due to the lockdown, Ratnam had to wait for things to fall back into places. And while talking about the same, he said if a film is bad, it’s bad. One can’t use the pandemic as an excuse. Furthermore said that the pandemic had hit everyone. Hence, it’s not at all an argument to say one could have made a better film if not for the pandemic.

Ratnam believes that a director job is to deliver against all odds. And maybe Bollywood took it easy and blamed the pandemic and didn’t take any any of their mistakes into consideration. The Ponniyin Selvan director made a note worthy remark as ever since the theatres have been reopened, most of the Hindi films have failed at the box office.
