Gujarat Titans look to bounce back from Suryavanshi shock as SRH face elimination threat

Gujarat Titans hope to recover from their previous defeat as they host a desperate Sunrisers Hyderabad, who must win to stay alive in IPL 2025.

As the IPL 2025 league phase approaches its final stretch, Gujarat Titans (GT) prepare to host Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in a high-stakes clash with significant playoff implications. While GT aim to bounce back from their stunning loss against 14-year-old sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi, SRH walk a tightrope with their playoff hopes hanging by a thread.

The Titans, though generally consistent this season, were left reeling in their previous outing by the teenage prodigy Suryavanshi. A victory against SRH could reaffirm their position among the playoff contenders, as they currently enjoy a relatively balanced season and home advantage.

Sunrisers Hyderabad find themselves in a precarious situation. With only a few games remaining, every match is now a knockout for the franchise. The pressure is immense, especially after their recent form has exposed several weaknesses.

One of the most significant setbacks for SRH has been the form of Ishan Kishan. Despite starting the season with a century, Kishan has only managed two more double-digit scores. The team will need a strong showing from him if they are to stand any chance against GT’s potent bowling unit.

GT opener Jos Buttler is just 12 runs away from reaching 4,000 IPL runs — a milestone that could be achieved tonight if he continues his rich vein of form. So far, he has scored 406 runs in 9 matches this season and remains a pillar of GT’s batting strength.

In the five past encounters between the two sides, Gujarat Titans lead the head-to-head record with three wins, while SRH have claimed one victory. Their most recent meeting this season saw GT dominate comfortably, thanks to a composed half-century from Shubman Gill and a collapse by SRH’s batting lineup.

GT boast a formidable bowling trio — Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, and R Sai Kishore — each with 12 or more wickets this season. However, Kishore’s reduced bowling quota in recent matches hints at some internal strategic adjustments.

Conversely, SRH’s bowling attack has faltered badly. Mohammed Shami’s form has been a shadow of his past exploits, Pat Cummins has struggled with economy, and the spinners have failed to deliver — leading to the exclusion of Adam Zampa from the playing XI.

SRH’s batting has also been unpredictable. Travis Head has one fifty but three single-digit scores in his last six innings, while Abhishek Sharma, despite his unforgettable 141-run innings, also has three single-digit scores in the same span. Such instability has heavily impacted SRH’s campaign.
