NCW summons actor Ajaz Khan, Ullu app CEO over vulgar content in House Arrest show

Published

The streaming platform Ullu has removed its reality show House Arrest following intense public outcry over its allegedly explicit and coercive content. The National Commission for Women (NCW) has summoned Ullu’s CEO, Vibhu Agarwal, and the show’s host, actor Ajaz Khan, a former Bigg Boss contestant, to appear before it on May 9, 2025, to address serious allegations regarding the program’s conduct.

A widely circulated clip from the show, dated April 29, 2025, depicted Khan allegedly pressuring female participants to perform intimate acts on camera, despite their clear discomfort and refusals. Reports also indicate that women were instructed to undress on set, raising significant concerns about consent and participant safety.

The NCW condemned the content as “deeply disturbing,” with Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar stating, “Such material undermines women’s dignity and normalizes coercion under the guise of entertainment. This is unacceptable.”

In a statement on X, the NCW highlighted the issue, noting, “Clips show women being forced into intimate acts on camera. We condemn this platform for promoting vulgarity and disregarding consent.”

An FIR has been lodged against Khan, and the NCW warned that, if substantiated, the allegations could lead to legal action against the show’s creators and host under the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and the Information Technology Act, 2000. The commission also issued a broader call to OTT platforms to prioritize responsible content creation and avoid exploiting or endangering women for entertainment.

The controversy amplified as explicit clips from House Arrest spread across social media, prompting reactions from both the public and political figures. Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi voiced her concerns on X, revealing she had previously flagged obscene OTT content to the Parliamentary Standing Committee but was still awaiting a response.

Promoted as a raw, unfiltered reality show akin to Bigg Boss or Lock Upp, House Arrest featured actresses including Gehna Vashisht, Nehal Vadoliya, Abha Paul, Humeira Sheikh, Sarika Salunke, Muskaan Agarwal, Ritu Rai, Ayushi Bhowmik, Simran Kaur, Jonita D’Cruz, and Naina Chabbra, alongside male participants Rahul Bhoj, Sankalp Soni, and Akshay Upadhyay.
