Amid the rise in fire incidents of Ola Electric scooters, the company decided to recall its 1,441 units of EV scooters to give a proper health check-up and to know the main fault behind it their EV scooters. The company also released an official statement under which it said that the firm is investigating and taking appropriate action to tackle the crisis.

Talking about the incident, Ola Electric said that they will be conducting a detailed diagnostics and health check of scooters in that specific batch and therefore they have issued a voluntary recall of 1,441 vehicles The firm said that those scooters who have caught the fire will be inspected by their top experts and will go through a proper checkup across all battery systems, thermal systems as well as the safety systems.

The company’s decision comes after when its newly launched Ola electric scooter, which got a great response from the customers caught fire in Pune and many other parts of the country. The company has faced a lot of criticism about its technology when the video of the incident start circulating on all the social media platforms.

In the 15-second video clip, the vehicle can be seen parked on the roadside and it is completely engulfed in fire. In most cases, the EV’s batteries catch fire due to overheating and the poor quality of lithium-ion cells or an inefficient battery management system.

Ola Electric said in an official statement that their battery systems in the EV scooters already comply with and is tested for AIS 156, which is the latest proposed standard for India. The company further added that they have supported an EV safety policy, and a preliminary assessment of one of its vehicles catching fire revealed the incident was an isolated one.

The leading two-wheeler manufacturer Hero MotoCorp which has been seeing a rise in sales for the past few years announced that the company will again be going to increase the prices of vehicles. The firm also revealed that the decision will come into power from the start of December.

This is the fourth time the firm has spiked the price of its vehicles. The reports have suggested that this time company is likely to increase prices somewhere around between Rs 1,500 to 3,000.

Reacting to the recent price hike on bikes and scooters, Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Hero Mr Niranjan Gupta said that the general inflationary costs have forced the company to increase the for their vehicles. He said to main healthy relations with its customers, the firm is offering creative financing options. In addition to that, he said that implementing accelerated savings programs will enable the company to counteract any future cost impacts and increase margins. Going forward, the economic indicators point to an increase in demand, and we anticipate that industry volumes will increase in the upcoming quarters, Gupta added.

Meanwhile, in order to attract new customers, the company has been trying to enter the EV segment as well. Amid this, Hero MotoCorp Vida opened its first experience in Bengaluru. To gain customers’ trust, the brand also started providing test rides for its V1 electric scooter.

Vida V1 EV is said to compete against the feature-loaded and hot-selling products Ola S1 Pro and Ather 450X and Ola S1 Pro. Talking about its specs, the new electric scooter has been launched with a 3.94 kWh battery, under which it claims to provide a range of 163 km (IDC) on a single charge.

It also has been claimed that the newly launched scooter can reach from 0-40 kmph in 3.2 seconds. As far as the price is concerned, customers can purchase it at the starting price of ₹1.45 lakh (ex-showroom).

In terms of mechanical aspects, the same 26 kWh Lithium-ion battery pack, generating the power of 76 bhp and 170 Nm of peak torque will remain the same. However, there are expectations that the upcoming Tigor EV version is likely to provide a driving range of 306 km on a single charge.

Amid this, the leading car manufacturer in India Tata also has been working on the CNG version of Altroz. If rumors are to be believed, the customers are likely to see the launch of the same around next year. Apart from this, facelifted versions of the Harrier and Safari midsize SUVs are also lineup to be unveiled at the 2023 Auto Expo in January.
