The latest film to come under the radar of a boycott is Sharad Kelkar’s Marathi film Har Har Mahadev. Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader and former Cabinet minister in the MVA government, Jitendra Awhad, allegedly led activists to stop the screening of the film in Thane mall.

NCP activists created hindrances during the film’s screening as they alleged that the film showed a distorted version of the history of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. The reports state that Awhad supporters also thrashed one of the audience members for opposing them.

Thane Police has registered a case against NCP MLA Jitendra Awhad and 100 of his workers at Vartak Nagar Police Station for forcibly closing the show of the film Har Har Mahadev and assaulting the audience. An FIR has been lodged against them under Sections 141, 143, 146, 149, 323, and 504 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). However, no arrest has been made yet.

A day earlier, Sambhaji Chhatrapati, a former member of the Rajya Sabha and a descendent of the royal family of Kolhapur, said that he would oppose any upcoming movies based on the legendary warrior king Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj if the facts were found to be misrepresented. He said he would make every effort to prevent their release.

Sambhaji Chhatrapati, a Shivaji Maharaj descendant, had previously expressed his displeasure with the Marathi films Har Har Mahadev and an upcoming film called Vedat Marathe Veer Daudale Saat.
