A 17-year-old social media influencer, Sana Yousaf, with over 1.2 million followers across TikTok and Instagram, was fatally shot dead at her home in Islamabad’s Sector G-13/1, marking the third such killing of a female influencer in Pakistan in five months, according to reports.

Sana was killed on Monday, 2 June 2025, within the Sumbal police station’s jurisdiction. Islamabad police arrested the suspect, Umar Hayat, alias “Kaka,” a fellow TikToker, in Faisalabad, according to Geo TV.

Hayat confessed to the murder, having fired two shots at Sana during a visit to her residence.

Sana lived with her father, a government official, her mother, a homemaker, and her 15-year-old brother, who was visiting their hometown, Chitral, in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa at the time.

Only Sana’s aunt was present during the incident. The aunt informed police that Sana had been conversing with Hayat before he shot her twice.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi commended the Islamabad police’s swift response on X, stating, “Well done Islamabad Police. Sana Yousaf’s murder case was solved, the accused arrested, and the weapon recovered within 20 hours.”

He noted that police retrieved a pistol and Sana’s iPhone from Hayat, who admitted to the crime. Sana’s mother lodged a case against him under Section 302 (murder) of the Pakistan Penal Code.

Known for her TikTok videos promoting Chitrali culture, women’s rights, and education, Sana, the daughter of a social activist, also engaged her Gen Z audience on Instagram with humorous reels. Her advocacy resonated widely, amplifying issues facing young women in her community.

This incident follows a disturbing trend, with two other female TikTokers killed recently: one in Punjab’s Khushab by her cousin, and another found dead in Peshawar in February 2025.
