The long hunt for Delhi’s elusive ‘Lady Don’ has finally come to an end. Zoya Khan, wife of jailed gangster Hashim Baba, was arrested in North East Delhi’s Welcome area with 270 grams of heroin, valued at approximately ₹1 crore in the international market. The arrest marks a significant breakthrough for law enforcement agencies, who had been tracking her for years.
The rise of Zoya Khan in Delhi’s crime world
At 33, Zoya was no ordinary criminal associate. She managed her husband’s vast criminal empire, operating discreetly yet effectively to avoid direct police action. Sources reveal that she played a crucial role in extortion rackets and drug trafficking, drawing comparisons to underworld figure Haseena Parkar, sister of Dawood Ibrahim.
Despite multiple suspicions and surveillance efforts, authorities had struggled to gather concrete evidence against Zoya—until now. Her arrest has exposed deep-rooted connections between organized crime and the narcotics trade, particularly links to networks in Uttar Pradesh’s Muzaffarnagar, from where she allegedly sourced the seized heroin.
A life of luxury and coded operations
Unlike typical crime lords, Zoya maintained a sophisticated public image. Her social media presence showcased her extravagant lifestyle—designer outfits, luxury brands, and high-profile parties. But behind the glamour, she was actively running gang operations under her husband’s guidance.
Law enforcement sources indicate that Zoya frequently visited Hashim Baba in Tihar Jail, where he trained her in coded language to evade police detection. Through secret communications, she managed financial operations and coordinated activities with his associates outside prison.
Involvement in high-profile murder cases
Investigators suspect Zoya played a role in sheltering shooters linked to the Nadir Shah murder case. Shah, a well-known gym owner in South Delhi’s Greater Kailash-1, was shot dead in September 2024. Last month, Zoya was questioned by the Special Cell at its Lodhi Colony office regarding her suspected involvement in the crime.
Crime runs in the family
Zoya’s background reveals deep ties to the world of organized crime. Her mother was jailed in 2024 for alleged involvement in a sex trafficking racket and is currently out on bail. Her father, too, was reportedly linked to drug distribution networks.
Operating from various locations in North East Delhi, Zoya was always under heavy security, surrounded by armed associates loyal to her husband. The region has long been a hub of criminal gangs, including those led by Chhenu, Hashim Baba, and Nasir Pehelwan, all of whom have been involved in violent territorial disputes since 2007.
Gangster alliances: Hashim Baba and Lawrence Bishnoi
Zoya’s arrest also brings renewed focus to her husband’s links with notorious gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. In 2023, Baba’s name surfaced in the Nadir Shah murder case, and he allegedly confessed to coordinating the hit from Tihar Jail. During his imprisonment, he reportedly forged ties with Bishnoi, who runs an extensive network of shooters across India.
Police investigations suggest that, despite being in separate prisons, Baba and Bishnoi maintained communication through illegal phone networks and video calls, orchestrating crimes from behind bars. Bishnoi is already under scrutiny for multiple high-profile cases, including the murder of musician Sidhu Moose Wala and an attack near Bollywood actor Salman Khan’s Mumbai residence.
With Zoya’s arrest, authorities believe they have dealt a major blow to the Hashim Baba gang’s operations. However, investigators are now working to uncover deeper connections in Delhi’s underworld and possible links to other criminal syndicates.
