Ahead of the National science day on February 28th, PM Modi congratulated the scientific community –mentioning the achievements of Nobel laureate Sir CV Raman.
Addressing the nation on the 41st edition of his monthly radio programme “Mann Ki Baat”, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday discussed a range of issues – including ‘New India’ vision, women empowerment, Artificial Intelligence and India’s contribution in the field of science.
Ahead of the National Science Day on February 28th, PM Modi congratulated the country’s scientific community – also mentioning the achievements of Nobel laureate Sir CV Raman and his popular ‘Raman effect’.
“Think of science and the first name that appears is that of Bharat Ratna CV Raman. We celebrate ‘ Feb 28 ‘ every year National Science Day because it is said that on the same day he search the light scattering incident,” said PM Modi.
“India is the land of many great scientists. On one hand, there are great mathematicians like Baudhayana, Bhaskara, Brahmagupta, and Aryabhatta. On the other hand, greats such as Sushruta and Charaka in the field of medicine are our pride, From Sir Jagdish Chandra Bose and Hargovind Khurana to Satyendra Nath Bose, India has a legacy of great scientists,” he added.
Lauding the efforts of the NDMA, he said, “National Disaster Management Authority is leading the effort towards disaster management. Urban local bodies and fire brigade must conduct mock drills in schools to create awareness among children about safety. Like joint military exercise, there should also be joint exercise for disaster management; India has taken a lead in this direction.”
Further speaking on Finance Minister Arun Jaitley’s last budget before the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Modi said, “This year’s budget focused on ‘Waste to Wealth’ and ‘Waste to Energy’. ‘Gobar Dhan – Galvanizing Organic Bio-Agro Resources’ aims to make villages clean and generate income and energy through compost. Under ‘Swachh Bharat Mission Gramin’, dung, farm waste, kitchen waste will be used for biogas energy. Online trading platform would be set up to run ‘Gobar Dhan Yojana’ smoothly; it will connect farmers to buyers.”
“India has world’s largest livestock of 30 crores. About 30 lakh tonnes of dung is generated every day. But we are not able to make full use of it,” he added.
Speaking on women empowerment he explained about Nari Shakti Awards being given every year, Modi said, “Woman power is playing a pioneering role and establishing milestones and there are no upper limits for Nari Shakti.”
“International Womens Day is observed every year on March 8. It’s our responsibility to ensure equal participation of women in every field, moving from Women Development to Women Led Development. 15 lakh women have carried out Swacchta Abhiyan. In 20 days, these women constructed 1,70,000 toilets,” he added.
