India deploys MARCOS naval commandos in eastern Ladakh

Published

on

The government has deployed the Marine Commandos (MARCOS) of the Indian Navy in the Pangong lake area in eastern Ladakh. Indian Air Forces Garud commandos and Indian Army para special forces are already stationed in the conflict zone for more than six months. India and China are engaged in a border standoff in the Himalayan region since April-May over the infiltration by the Chinese army in multiple Indian territories including finger area, Galwan Valley and Kongrung Nala. Tensions escalated after 20 Indian soldiers were killed in a violent clash with Chinese troops in June.

Reports said the deployment of the MARCOS in the region is to enhance integration of the three services- Indian Air Forces Garud commandos, Indian Army para special forces and Marine Commandos. This is also to provide the naval commandos exposure to extreme cold weather conditions.

Reports also said the Marine commandos will also get new boats to carry out operations in the lake along with the existing infrastructure. Special forces like Para Special Forces and Secretariat’s Special Frontier Force have been carrying out special operations in Eastern Ladakh for a long time. During the early days of conflict with China, the Indian Air Force’s Garud Special Forces along with their Igla shoulder-fired air defence systems moved to strategic heights on the Line of Actual Control (LAC) to monitor any fighter aircraft of the enemy which may have tried to violate Indian air space.

The special troops of both Army and Air force have been deployed in the Himalayan region for more than six months now. On August 29-30, India had taken pre-emptive action and used the special forces to occupy hilltops on the strategic heights along the Line of Actual Control to prevent the Chinese forces from doing so. China has also maintained special troops on their side of the LAC.

Congress national general secretary Priyanka Gandhi on Friday alleged  BJP seeks votes in the name of God instead of talking about how it is going to control inflation or provide employment to people. Gandhi was addressing a number of nukkad sabhas in support of Congress candidate from Amethi Lok Sabha seat Kishori Lal Sharma where she said while the Prime Minister claims on national television that his government did in 10 years the work that was not done in the last 70 years, the situation on the ground level tells a different story.

Kishori Lal Sharma is contesting against sitting Amethi MP Smriti Irani. The BJP leader had wrested the seat, which was considered a Gandhi family stronghold, from Rahul Gandhi in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.  Priyanka Gandhi targeted Smriti Irani and said her sole intention was to beat Rahul Gandhi.

She said, the Amethi MP and BJP people come at the time of the elections but do not talk about how they will control inflation, improve farming or provide employment to people of Amethi.  She added BJP comes to people’s houses and ask for votes in the name of God.

Did they not do this?  She said they are misleading the people. She asked why the BJP is not seeking votes in the name of work done in the past 10 years? She said everybody is religious and God and religion are very dear to all of them, but using religion for politics is wrong.

Gandhi recalled her family’s association with Amethi and said the tradition of politics here was such that it was a leader’s dharma to serve people and it was followed by all members of her family. She said the tradition was followed and so the people of Amethi always supported them and strengthened them. She said the relationship was such that they strengthened each other.
