Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced on Sunday that he will hand over his social media accounts to women achievers from various fields to celebrate International Women’s Day on March 8.
During his monthly Mann Ki Baat radio address, Modi revealed that these accomplished women will share their experiences and work through his platforms, which boast tens of millions of followers on X, YouTube, Instagram, and other handles.
“Let us celebrate and respect the indomitable spirit of women,” Modi said, applauding the growing participation of women across different sectors. This initiative mirrors a similar gesture from 2020, when Modi handed over his social media accounts to seven leading women to mark International Women’s Day.
In addition to highlighting women’s achievements, Modi addressed the rising issue of obesity in India, urging citizens to take proactive steps toward a healthier lifestyle. Citing research, he noted that one in eight people in the country suffers from obesity, with the number doubling in recent years. He expressed particular concern over the fourfold increase in obesity among children.
To tackle this issue, Modi encouraged people to reduce their oil consumption by 10% and challenged 10 individuals to do the same, with each of them inspiring 10 others to follow suit. He also shared audio messages from notable figures, including Olympic gold medalist Neeraj Chopra, emphasizing the importance of combating obesity.
Modi also called on citizens to celebrate National Science Day by spending “one day as a scientist,” suggesting visits to research laboratories or planetariums to spark curiosity and interest in science.
Addressing students preparing for board exams, the Prime Minister advised them to stay “happy and stress-free.” He highlighted the positive response to the new format of Pariksha Pe Charcha, his annual interaction with students, which has garnered widespread appreciation.
Through these initiatives, Modi continues to blend social awareness with public engagement, using his platform to inspire action and celebrate achievements across diverse fields.
