In yet another case of mounting stray dog menace in the country, a seven-year-old boy was mauled to death by the beasts in a village of Bilari area in Moradabad district of Uttar Pradesh on Sunday.
According to reports, the deceased minor, identified as Savendra Kumar, had gone out, along with his elder sister, to serve tea to their parents who were working at a farm when the siblings were surrounded by a pack of stray dogs enroute.
The rabid strays attacked the brother-sister duo even as the girl shouted for help and along with locals tried to save her little brother by attacking the beasts with sticks. However, by the time the stray dogs backed off and the child was rescued, he had already sustained grievous injuries in the vicious mauling on his face, arms and body.
The minor boy was rushed to a hospital in Bilari where he succumbed to his injuries. Following the boy’s death, his family along with other residents, staged a protest in the village, however, senior police officials arrived at the scene and assured them of action.
SP MLA Faheem Irfan who visited the victim’s family said he will raise the issue in the state assembly and also ensured compensation for the family.

In a similar incident, an 18-month-old toddler died after being mauled by stray dogs in a village of Andhra Pradesh’s Srikakulam district on Friday.
According to reports, on late Friday evening, the toddler girl, identified as Satvika, was attacked by dogs while she was playing outside a house in Mettavalsa village where her mother worked as a maid.
As per officials, the incident took place in Mettavalsa village, located in the G. Sigadum Mandal area of Srikakulam district in Andhra Pradesh at around 7:45 pm on Friday.
Reports said the toddler’s family rushed her to the Rajam Government Hospital where she received first aid, and later was shifted to Srikakulam Government Hospital for further treatment.
However, the little girl succumbed to her injuries at the hospital, police said, adding that a case has been registered in this regard and further investigation is ongoing.
