The fire gutted wiring, furniture, air conditioning. Mattresses in room number 103 and 203, while it also destroyed clothes for laundry, room blankets in the staircase and lobby as well as wiring in the common duct from the first to third floor, a civic official said.
The fire brigade used three hose lines, one high-pressure first aid line, four fire engines, four water tankers, and other equipment to extinguish the Level I blaze at 3:20pm, according to an official.
Earlier in June 2023, another incident happened where one person died and five were injured after a fire broke out at a chemical company in Maharashtra’s Thane district. The blaze started near a nitric acid tank in the factory at 4pm in Ambernath MIDC, as per reports.
Six fire engines, two each from Ambernath, Anand Nagar and Ulhasnagar, were pressed into service and the fire was brought under control in one and half hours.
Though nitric acid itself is not flammable, it is a strong oxidising agent and can support combustion and react with other substances that can catch fire.
