[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP) OP Singh issued a circular directing all district police chiefs to identify Bangladeshis and ‘other foreigners’ so that they can be deported.
In his letter the DGP said “this move was crucial for internal security of the state”, adding that “the deportation will be time-bound and monitored by senior officials.”
The deportation exercise will be “time-bound and monitored by senior officials,” the letter read.
The move is seen as UP’s version of Assam National Register of Citizens (NRC).However, OP Singh said that the exercise has nothing to do with NRC.
“It has nothing to do with NRC. We have been practicing this for many years. People who are Bangladeshi or from some other countries need to submit their documents who are living here illegally,” he said.
“Action will be taken against people found with fake documents. It’s an annual exercise which is done every year. There are some instances where they are involved in criminal activities. As the festive season is near, we need to be alert,” he added.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_raw_html]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[/vc_raw_html][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The police have been ordered to cover transport hubs and slums on the outskirts of their respective districts. The order also directs the police to check and verify all the documents produced by anyone appearing to be suspicious.
Fingerprints of the people identified as Bangladeshi or other foreigners should also be taken. The construction companies are instructed to keep an identity proof of the labourers hired by them.
Police are also instructed to track down government employees who may have helped the foreigners in getting the fake documents.
“We intend to identify such people. Order is very clear… we need to be transparent. Videography has to be done and no one has to be troubled,” Singh said.
The move comes amid the controversy of the revised citizen’s charter in Assam’s NRC which left out 19 lakh people, while UP CM Yogi Adityanath praising the Assam Government saying that he would do the same if need persists in the state. Yogi also said that such measure is important for national security.
The Assam NRC published on 31 August was aimed at determining who was born in Assam and who come from Bangladesh or other neighbouring regions. Those who can prove their citizenship up to midnight on March 24, 1971 — the day before Bangladesh declared its independence from Pakistan — are considered to be the citizens by the NRC. The rest will be thrown out of the country if they cannot prove their citizenship.
