Harsimrat Kaur

Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Harsimrat Kaur Badal on Friday said she never called the farm bills moved by the Narendra Modi government anti-farmer in what is seen as walking a tightrope between farmers’ interests and the SAD’s continuance in the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

She said she had repeatedly asked the Central government to listen to concerns raised by the farmers and hold open discussions with them before tabling the bills in Parliament. The SAD leader quit the Cabinet on Thursday night as the debate over the bills grew animated and the government resolve behind the bills showed.

Badal said farmers feel that if the bills got passed they will be at the mercy of the private players. she added that the union government needs to take farmers’ concerns into consideration. However, on the question of her calling the bills anti-farmer, she said it does not matter what she thinks. She added the bills have come in Parliament for the benefit of the farmers and they must believe that it is in their benefit.

Maharashtra farm loan waiver to bring stability but at high cost

Badal’s husband and SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal said he strongly opposed the three agriculture-related bills in the Lok Sabha. Badal said the farm bills would sound the death knell for 20 lakh farmers, 3 lakh mandi labourers, 30 lakh labourers and 30,000 arhatiyas, besides destroying food grain procurement system established over 50 years.

On the other hand, the Modi government said the proposed laws are meant to help small and marginal farmers. Calling the day of passage of bills a historic day for the country in the field of agricultural reforms, PM Narendra Modi on Friday blamed the opposition for spreading lies and misleading farmers on the legislation.

However, the bills have triggered massive protests from farmers, particularly in Punjab and Haryana. The bills will replace three ordinances issued in June which will now be taken up by the Rajya Sabha. Many parties are targeting the government over these bills, including the Akali Dal, the oldest ally of the BJP.

Kullu Dussehra swing accident: 3 people, including 1 woman, sustained injuries after tyre falls on their head | WATCH

Dussehra is celebrated with great pomp and zeal in India. From having good food to enjoying swings, people visit Dussehra fairs to mark this festival. But a horrific incident happened during International Kullu Dussehra Festival in Himachal Pradesh’s Kullu when three people sustained injuries after a swing tyre fell on them on Wednesday at around 9 pm.

The video of the same is going viral on social media in which it can be seen that, as and when the woman stepped outside the swing, its tyre suddenly broke and fell on another woman standing nearby. During the incident, two people from Delhi and a woman from Kullu sustained major injuries.

The good part was that the swing was not moving at that time, otherwise, a serious accident might have occurred if it had continued to swing. At the time of the incident, people were getting off the swing. When the girl left the swing, the tyre touched her head and landed on another girl who was standing close by, and she fainted.

The police rushed to the spot immediately after receiving the information about the incident. After reaching, the authorities sealed the swing. The police are conducting research thoroughly to find the reason behind the mishap.

Speaking about the incident, Additional Superintendent of Police Kullu Sagar Chandra said that the swing was sealed as soon as the information was received. The girl is undergoing treatment in the hospital as she has suffered a neck injury, while information about where the two tourists from Delhi went for treatment is not available.

A similar incident took place a few days ago in Punjab’s Mohali after a swing fell to the ground at the Dussehra fair, injuring around 20 people.

In another incident, an 80-foot effigy of Ravana fell on the ground in Haryana’s Yamunanagar during Ravana Dahan. The video of the incident is doing rounds on the internet in which it can be seen that people were standing close to the nearly-burnt effigy of Ravana when it started falling.
