The authorities emphasize the need for vigilance in the digital space to maintain peace and stability within the region.

The Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) Police has said that a Kashmiri social media influencer, who operated several handles including ‘Wounded Kashmir’ and ‘Lacerated Kashmir’, has been formally charged with promoting terrorism and undermining the lawful administrative regime. The charges were filed under the National Investigation Agency (NIA) Act in a special court located in Budgam, central Kashmir.

A spokesperson from the State Investigation Agency (SIA), a specialized wing of the J&K Police, revealed that a comprehensive chargesheet has been submitted against the accused, identified as Irfan-U-Haq from Kawoosa Khalisa in Budgam district. The allegations include violations of several legal provisions, such as Section 153-A of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Section 13 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, and Section 2 of the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act.

The SIA’s investigation reportedly involved extensive technical analysis which led to the identification of multiple social media accounts controlled by the accused. These accounts, including ‘The Resistance Kashmir’ and ‘Maimed Kashmir’, were allegedly created under pseudonyms to evade detection by law enforcement agencies.

The SIA has stated that these handles were utilized to disseminate secessionist ideologies while promoting terrorism and discrediting the Indian administrative framework. Furthermore, it has been asserted that the accused exhibited disrespect towards the Indian National Flag through several posts.

On a related note, the J&K Police took firm action on March 7, 2025, by apprehending six individuals for operating fake social media accounts. These individuals were accused of disseminating content glorifying terrorism, which the police believe could potentially incite unrest and threaten public order. Legal steps have been initiated against them in accordance with preventive detention laws.

The J&K Police have urged social media users to act responsibly, warning that strict legal action will be pursued against those who violate guidelines related to the posting and sharing of misleading or disruptive content. The authorities emphasize the need for vigilance in the digital space to maintain peace and stability within the region.

The Khelo India Winter Games (KIWG) 2025 are set to take place in Gulmarg from March 9 to 12, following significant snowfall in the region over the past few days. Initially planned for February 22 to 25, the event was postponed due to an uncharacteristically dry winter in Kashmir, which left the venue lacking sufficient snow for the competitions.

Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council secretary Nuzhat Gul confirmed the new dates, stating, “We are all set to host the Khelo India Winter Games 2025 from March 9 to 12. Top winter sports athletes from across the country are expected to participate in the event.” The KIWG is recognized for fostering winter sports in India, and this edition promises thrilling contests.

The 2025 KIWG marks the second phase of the event, focusing on skiing and snowboarding competitions. Earlier this year, the opening leg of the Games was held in January in the Leh district of Ladakh, where athletes showcased their skills in ice skating and ice hockey.

The decision to host the second leg in Gulmarg comes after favorable weather conditions improved snow levels, making it possible to proceed with the highly anticipated winter sports events. This year’s KIWG is poised to attract various talented athletes from around the nation, highlighting the importance of promoting winter sports in the country.

Snowfall in the Valley has created an ideal environment for winter sports enthusiasts, with both participants and spectators eager to witness the athletic prowess on display. The Khelo India initiative aims to enhance sports infrastructure and encourage youth participation across multiple disciplines, ensuring a holistic growth of sports culture in India.

As excitement builds for the upcoming games, stakeholders are optimistic about the sportsmanship and camaraderie that this year’s KIWG will foster.
