BJP releases list of candidates for Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh before election dates announced

For Chhattisgarh, the BJP has released the list of 21 candidates. While for Madhya Pradesh, the party has declared names of candidates for 39 seats.

The BJP released its first list candiates for the Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh state assembly elections before the official announcement of the dates by the Election Commission.

For Chhattisgarh, the BJP has released the list of 21 candidates. While for Madhya Pradesh, the party has declared names of candidates for 39 seats.

This is the first time ever in the history of BJP to have announced the list of candidates even before the announcement of the election and its dates.  Else, looking at its past records, BJP waits until the last moment to declare the name of its candidates.

Both in Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh list of candidates, the party has included five women candidates each.

The announcement comes just a day after the party’s Central Election Committee that was held in its headquarters in Delhi. The meeting held under party president JP Nadda’s chairmanship was attended Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Union Defense Minister Rajanth Singh and other members of the panel.

Reports claimed, Prime Minister Modi in the meeting had instructed to release the first list of candidates at the earlier so that the party gets enough time to do preparations on ground for the elections.

Reports claimed, the party has focused on those seats where they party finds itself weak and needs quite an effort to ensure victory.

BJP’s early bird move is being seen very crucial as the party hopes to win with majority in the 230-member assembly Madhya Pradesh and 90-member assembly Chhattisgarh, where it had tasted defeat to Congress in the last election in 2018.

After winning assembly election, 10 BJP MPs, including 2 ministers, resign from Lok Sabha

In Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, and Madhya Pradesh, state elections were won by 12 MPs, according to a BJP leader.

10 members of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Parliament, including two union ministers who emerged victorious in the assembly elections, resigned from the Lok Sabha on Wednesday, according to persons familiar with the situation.

Following their meetings with BJP President JP Nadda and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the ten MPs tendered their resignations. They went to the speaker’s office with the party president in tow, where nine MPs tendered their resignation. Kirori Lal Meena, the 10th MP, tendered his resignation to the chairman of the Rajya Sabha.

In Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, and Madhya Pradesh, state elections were won by 12 MPs, according to a BJP leader.

The ten MPs who have resigned are: Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, Diya Kumari, Kirori Lal Meena (a member of the Rajya Sabha); Arun Sao and Gomti Sai from Chhattisgarh; and Narendra Singh Tomar, Prahlad Patel, Rakesh Singh, Uday Pratap Singh, and Riti Pathak from Madhya Pradesh.

Baba Balaknath, a Lok Sabha MP from Rajasthan, and Renuka Singh, a Chhattisgarh native who was elected as the union minister of state for tribal affairs, have not yet tendered their resignations.

The responsibility for agriculture is held by Narendra Singh Tomar, while the state minister for food processing and Jal Shakti is Prahlad Patel.

The fourth minister the BJP fielded in the state elections, Faggan Singh Kulaste, is the minister of state for steel and rural development, however he was unable to win the assembly seat.

These Members of Parliament are expected to tender their resignations, and there have been rumours of a potential reorganisation within the Union Council of Ministers.

In July 2021, the Union Council underwent its most recent major restructuring with the appointment of 43 ministers, comprising 36 new members. The most recent alteration occurred in May when Kiren Rijiju was replaced as law minister by Arjun Ram Meghwal, a minister of state. The position of minister for earth sciences was given to Rijiju.

DMK MP DNV Senthilkumar S expressed regret over the controversial remark made in Parliament yesterday while targeting the Bharatiya Janta Party and said he was withdrawing his statement. He had apologized for his comments on social media. He took to X (formerly twitter) and wrote commenting on the results of the five state elections, he did not use a word in an appropriate way. Not using that term with any intent, he apologized for sending the wrong meaning across.

He said in the Lok Sabha the statement made by him yesterday inadvertently, if it had hurt the sentiments of the members and sections of the people, he would like to withdraw it. He requested the words to be deleted and he regret it. The ruling BJP termed at as disrespect of the Sanatani tradition and objected to this type of language in the parliament. Opposition leaders including Rajiv Shukla Congress MP’s Karti Chidambaram also condemned the statement.

Congress MP Manickam Tagore said they condemned what the DMK MP had said. He said what the Alliance partner is speaking cannot be attatched to Congress. He said the Congress stands for India and respects all religions. He further added this is a planned conspiracy by the BJP to stop the functioning of the parliament and divert its focus from the real issues.  The remarks were deleted from the DMK MP’s speech by Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla.

The third day of the 2023 Winter session started with shouts of Maafi Mango from BJP MPs even before the speaker started the proceedings of the day in Lok Sabha. Union Minister Piyush Goyal sought an apology from DMK MP TR Baalu for Kumar’s comments in the House. He said Baalu should apologise first. He asked how will the House function like this? Goyal asked how can any person say anything in this house and go? He demanded an apology from the DMK MP.

Revanth Reddy to be next Telangana Chief Minister, swearing-in on December 7

Reddy has been credited for the Congress party’s thumping victory in the Telangana state elections. He was the face of the Congress’s winning campaign.

The Congress party announced Telangana Congress Chief Revanth Reddy will be the next chief minister of the state on Tuesday. Congress general secretary KC Venugopal said the swearing in ceremony is going to take place on December 7. The Congress party did not reveal whether there will be one or more deputy chief ministers and what role senior leaders from Telangana will have in the government.

Reddy has been credited for the Congress party’s thumping victory in the Telangana state elections. He was the face of the Congress’s winning campaign. Revanth Reddy is a Lok Sabha MP and a two time MLA. He represented the assembly of undivided Andhra Pradesh in 2009 and later in Telangana assembly in 2014.

Reddy started his political career with the Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the student wing of the RSS. In 2007 he was elected as a Member of Legislative Council (MLC) as an independent candidate. Later Reddy joined the Telugu Desam Party (TDP). He was elected to the Andhra Pradesh Assembly from Kodangal constituency in 2009.

He quit the party after he found involved in an alledged bribing scandal. He joined the Congress party in 2017 and was appointed as the TPCC chief in 2021. The 54 year old leader earned many critics within the party ranks after he changed the style of functioning as a state Congress chief.

He was projected as a big stage leader and addressed many high ticket rallies in the campaigning for the assembly elections. Reddy is known to take on KCR and his family in his speeches and interviews. In a historic win the Congress party defeated the K Chandrasekhar Rao led (BRS) government as it crossed the majority mark by winning 64 seats in Telangana. The BRS trailed with 38 seats, while the BJP improved its 2018 tally by winning eight seats.  The AIMIM won 7 seats, while the CPI could manage only one seat.
