[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]A day after end of voting for 2019 Lok Sabha, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanathtoday (Monday, May 20) dropped OBC welfare minister Om Prakash Rajbharof Suhaildev Bhartiya Samaj Party (SBSP) from the state cabinet.
Adityanath also removed all members appointed to various boards and corporations in Uttar Pradesh just ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections to placate Rajbhar, reported The Hindustan Times (HT).
Rajbhar had resigned from his post earlier this month and had fielded 39 candidates across Uttar Pradesh in the Lok Sabha electionsafter talks broke down over seat sharing with the BJP. The saffron party reportedly wanted SBSP candidates to contest on the BJP symbol, according to a report in The Indian Express.
Rajbhar, who has considerable clout in eastern Uttar Pradesh, has been upset over the denial of seats of his choice in the state and had fielded 39 candidates for seats in the fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh phases.
Just days ago, a case was filed against him for allegedly threatening and abusing BJP workers.
“Om Prakash Rajbhar has been relieved of his responsibilities as a minister for backward classes welfare and disabled development,” said a Raj Bhawan communique.
The departments Rajbhar headed have been given to Anil Rajbhar, the BJP MLA and minister of state who had campaigned extensively in eastern UP after Om Prakash Rajbhar rebelled, the HT report said.
Reacting to the dismissal Om Prakash Rajbhar said, “Had BJP told us two months back we would have made our choices. They ditched me and my people. Where will they go now?”
News agency ANI reported an entirely different reaction. According to a report in The Indian Express, Rajbhar told news agency ANI that he welcomes the development. “We welcome his decision. CM has taken a very good decision. He formed Social Justice Committee and threw its report in a dustbin. He didn’t have spare time to implement it. I request him to implement Social Justice Committee’s report as quickly as he took this decision today,” he reportedly told ANI.
The case against Rajbhar was filed on May 18 after he allegedly urged supporters to thrash ruling party workers with shoes if they spread “misinformation” about his party. He claimed that BJP leaders were spreading rumours that the SBSP candidate was not contesting the election from the Ghosi parliamentary seat. A video of his speech has gone viral on social media.
On May 6, Rajbhar told news agency PTI that he resigned on April 13: “I tendered resignation as minister on April 13. It is up to the BJP to decide whether to accept or reject it. I have nothing to do with the government now.”
The Rajbhars constitute 20 per cent of the Purvanchal population and are regarded as the second-most politically dominant community after Yadavs in eastern UP. The SBSP won four seats in 2017 UP assembly elections.
Different exit polls results released last night gave different projections about the winning party or alliance in Uttar Pradesh. While some predicted that the BJP might retain most of the 71 seats it had won in 2014, some credited the SP-BSP-RLD alliance to wrest 40 to 56 seats.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
