Kurnool Police books former CM Chandrababu Naidu for false alarm over new Covid strain in Andhra Pradesh
The Kurnool Police booked former Andhra Pradesh CM N. Chandrababu Naidu under sections 188 and 505(1)(b)(2) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 54 of the Disaster Management Act.

A man in Kurnool has filed an FIR against TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu for allegedly creating fear among people over the N440K strain as India fights a deadly second wave.
The Kurnool Police booked former Andhra Pradesh CM N. Chandrababu Naidu under sections 188 and 505(1)(b)(2) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 54 of the Disaster Management Act.
Who has lodged the complaint?
The complaint was lodged by a lawyer Masupogu Subbaiah alleging that Naidu claimed that the N440K strain was born in Kurnool city and caused enormous damage to humans. Subbaiah has registered a complaint against Naidu, saying that he created fear among the people of Kurnool as he claimed that the N440K Coronavirus strain is still prevalent and is deadly as compared to other strains.
What Perni Venkataramaiah has said?
Earlier, state minister of transport and information and public relations Perni Venkataramaiah (Perni Nani) had clarified that there was no clear diagnosis about the mutant strain in Andhra Pradesh and said Naidu is more dangerous than Covid-19.
Addressing a press conference on Thursday, the Minister had said that the state government has been relentlessly working to provide medical services beyond its means, but Naidu is trying to defame the state image by falsely accusing the government and scaring people with false rumours.
He said that no confirmation has been made on the spread of N440K virus and senior scientists have also confirmed that there is no new mutant virus in the country except B.1.617. He alleged that Chandrababu Naidu is trying to gain from these situations by making cheap politics around.
What Telugu Desam Party has said?
Section 54 of the Disaster Management Act was invoked for Naidu had given a false warning on the coronavirus strain. The Telugu Desam Party decried the case against its leader and lashed out at Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy for pursuing politics of vendetta at a time when a major health crisis gripped the State.
The false case has been fabricated against Chandrababu only to cover the failures of the Chief Minister. More than 20,000 coronavirus cases are being registered in the State daily. Tens of persons were dying due to scarcity of oxygen in hospitals,” former Deputy Chief Minister (Home) N China Rajappa said in a statement. The government has grossly failed in vaccinating the people and has been ignoring public health and focusing, instead, only foisting fake cases against the opposition leaders, he said.
What do scientists say about N440K Covid variant?
The scientists at CSIR-Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology had recently said that the N440K variant of coronavirus, which wreaked havoc during the first wave of the pandemic in the country, is diminishing and likely to disappear soon. The firm have also debunked the rumours that the N440K variant of coronavirus is dangerous than previous variants.

The Hyderabad-based institute further cited World Health Organization’s weekly epidemiological reports and said that even the WHO mentioned B.1.617 as the Variant of Interest and did not say anything about N440K.
