Maharashtra political turmoil: Shiv Sena issues ultimatum to its MLAs, asks them to attend meeting in Mumbai by 5 pm or face action
The political crisis in Maharashtra saw a dramatic escalation following a revolt by Shiv Sena Minister Eknath Shinde and other MLAs.

An hour before the Shiv Sena MLAs crucial meeting with Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, the party on Wednesday issued an ultimatum to all its MLAs asking them to attend the 5 pm meeting at chief minister’s residence failing which the absent MLAs will be considered to have quit the party voluntarily.
Sena also warned its MLAs saying if MLAs are absent without proper reason, action will be initiated against them to cancel their membership as per constitutional provisions. The letter has been issued by party chief whip Sunil Prabhu.
In a letter sent via WhatsApp, email and SMS, the Shiv Sena called all MLAs to a meeting at chief minister’s residence. Uddhav Thackeray, who was infected from Covid, is expected to chair the meeting at 5 pm via video conferencing.
If any of the MLA could be absent in today’s meeting at 5 pm, then the membership of an individual will be cancelled with immediate effect under the law, the letter said.
Amid a revolt within the party, the Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray, who had been tested positive for Covid-19 this afternoon, on Wednesday called a meeting of all Shiv Sena MLAs at 5 pm in Mumbai.
Speaking on the crisis, the Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut, who earlier had hinted at the dissolution of the assembly, said no decision will be made unless all MLAs are back in Mumbai.
Responding to Shinde’s claim of support of 40 MLAs and six Independents, the Shiv Sena MP had earlier tweeted that the ongoing political crisis in Maharashtra is heading towards the dissolution of Vidhan Sabha.

Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena, which heads the Maha Vikas Aghadi government in Maharashtra, has 55 MLAs, followed by allies Sharad Pawar’s Nationalist Congress Party (53) and the Congress (44). The majority marks are 144.

Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray resigns ahead of floor test
The Supreme Court on Wednesday said that the Thackeray-led Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government will go through the floor test on Thursday.

Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray resigned from his post late Wednesday. He resigned minutes after the Supreme Court refused to stay the floor test on June 30.
Thackeray said that he had come in an unexpected manner and he is going out in the same way. He claimed that he is not going away forever and will sit in Shiv Sena Bhawan again.
In an online address, Thackeray expressed gratitude to the people of NCP and Congress for supporting him. He further said Shiv Sena leaders Anil Parab, Subhash Desai, and Aaditya Thackeray were only present when the proposal was passed. Moreover, NCP and Congress leaders also supported the proposal.
He is satisfied that he had officially renamed Aurangabad to Sambhaji Nagar and Osmanabad to Dharashiv, Thackeray concluded.
The Supreme Court on Wednesday said that the Thackeray-led Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government will go through the floor test on Thursday. The bench comprising Justices Surya Kant and JB Pardiwala refused to interfere with Governor BS Koshiyari’s direction.
Uddhav Thackeray was appointed as the chief minister of Maharashtra on November 28, 2019, after a high-voltage post-electoral drama in the state. Shiv Sena, allied with Bharatiya Janata Party and contested the assembly election in an alliance.
The BJP and Shiv Sena won 105 and 56 seats respectively. Later, Shiv Sena broke the alliance and merged with NCP and Congress and formed the Maha Vikas Aghadi government.

Udaipur murder: Rajasthan Police rejects viral claim killers served biryani in jail

The Rajasthan Police on Wednesday rejected a viral claim that the two accused in the murder of a tailor in Udaipur over a post on Prophet Muhammad has been served biryani in jail.
Along with a screenshot of the fake news shared by a verified handle, the Rajasthan Police clarified in a tweet that a fake news which is going viral is absolutely wrong.
In Udaipur, strict action will be taken against the criminals and the state police will not deal softly with criminals. The Rajasthan police is committed to maintaining law and order situation of the state, the Rajasthan Police tweeted in Hindi.
A story of a Hindi news website with a headline – After being arrested, the two Udaipur killers would be served biryani in Rajasthan jail. What if it was in UP (Uttar Pradesh)? was doing rounds on social media since the two accused arrest but the Rajasthan Police has finally put a full stop on the news.
The fake viral story was tweeted by many, including the anchor of a news channel, who has now deleted the post.
However, the situation is under control in Udaipur after the state government has imposed a curfew in parts of Rajasthan following the internet suspension in the entire Congress-ruled state.
The Udaipur tailor, Kanhaiya Lal, 48, was murdered by two armed men at his shop yesterday. They have not only brutally murdered him but also captured the incident on camera. After they have also made a video revealing details of the murder and also threatened Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The two accused Ghous Mohammad and Riaz Akhtar Attari were arrested shortly after the incident.
Meanwhile, the NIA has taken over the case after treating the murder as a terror attack while the Rajasthan Police said more suspects would be questioned and all angles including foreign links will be investigated.

Amid political turmoil in Maharashtra, a fresh political crisis was witnessed on Wednesday in BJP-ruled Bihar as 4 of 5 Asaduddin Owaisi’s MLAs joined Lalu Yadav’s Rashtriya Janata Dal. Akhtarul Iman from Amour constituency is the only MLA of the Owaisi-led AIMIM in Bihar Assembly now.
Out of 5 Bihar AIMIM MLAs, 4 have joined the RJD today. Now, the RJD is the largest party in the Bihar Legislative Assembly, the RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav said.
The four MLAs– Muhammed Izhar Asfi (Kochadamam), Shahnawaz Alam (Jokihat), Syed Ruknuddin (Baisi) and Azhar Nayeemi (Bahadurgunj)– have joined the RJD, the principal Opposition party in Bihar with 79 MLAs in the 243-member Legislative Assembly.
The RJD currently has 75 MLAs in the Bihar Assembly while the BJP has 77. With this defection, RJD will have 79 MLAs in the Assembly.
Owaisi’s Hyderabad-based outfit had put up an impressive show in November 2020 assembly polls by winning 5 out of 20 seats it contested. After the 2020 assembly elections result, the alliance led by RJD had blamed Owaisi’s AIMIM for eating their party votes in the Seemanchal region of Bihar.
The AIMIM had fielded 14 candidates in the Seemanchal region which comprises 4 districts Purnia, Katihar, Kishanganj, and Araria — accounting for 24 seats.
The region has a sizeable Muslim population and was considered an RJD-Congress stronghold but Owaisi ended up 2020 polls by winning 5 seats out of Seemanchal region’s 24 seats. However, it was hurted the prospects of RJD capturing the power and Tejashwi Yadav’s (son of Lalu Prasad Yadav) dream of becoming the Chief Minister of India’s second most populated state Bihar.
After winning 5 seats in Bihar in 2020 polls in Bihar, the Uttar Muslims had rejected Owaisi and did not vote for the Hyderabad-based party.
