Hours after the news of a hike of Rs 50 in the price of a domestic LPG cylinder, the West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday slammed the Centre’s BJP government over the hike in the price of domestic LPG cylinders

Reacting to the price hike, the West Bengal Bengal CM asked the PM Modi government to stop tormenting the people of India by regularly raising the prices of fuel, LPG cylinders and other essential commodities.

Taking to Twitter, Banerjee said that the Centre must immediately stop tormenting the people of India by repeatedly increasing fuel prices, LPG prices and prices of essential commodities. The BJP is actually conducting a great Indian loot and the people are being fooled, she wrote in her tweet.

Sad to see the media is silent and blind, Banerjee also wrote at end of her tweet.

Trinamool MP Sukhendu Sekhar Ray also said condemned the Centre’s regular hike in prices of fuel and LPG cylinders and urged other political parties to join the TMC protest against the recent hike in Bengal and across the country.

The price of domestic cooking gas has been increased by Rs 50 per cylinder on Saturday, the second increase in the last two months, taking the price to Rs 1,026 in Kolkata.

The price of an LPG cylinder varies across cities depending on the local taxes.

In a Facebook post, Rahul Gandhi alleged PM Modi government saying that the millions of Indian households are waging a difficult battle against extreme inflation, unemployment and poor governance.

Referring to the Congress-led UPA government, Gandhi said the price of an LPG cylinder was Rs 414 and a subsidy of Rs 827 was being given on every cylinder. Today, the cost of a cylinder is 999. The amount of subsidy given is zero, Gandhi said.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray were seen travelling on the same commercial flight from Mumbai to Nagpur, triggering fresh political discussions in the state.

The two leaders, who have remained political rivals in recent years, reportedly exchanged greetings and briefly interacted during the journey. Reacting to the unexpected encounter, Fadnavis remarked that the meeting of the leaders had become the “biggest news of the day”.

Thackeray was accompanied by his son and MLA Aaditya Thackeray, Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut and other senior leaders of the Shiv Sena (UBT). The flight came at a time when Maharashtra politics has witnessed significant developments, including recent defections from the Thackeray-led party.

The shared journey quickly sparked speculation in political circles. However, leaders from the ruling alliance played down the development, describing it as a routine interaction between political opponents rather than an indication of any new political understanding.

While the brief interaction generated considerable attention, no political discussions or meetings beyond customary greetings were officially reported.
