Demonetisation: BJP slams P Chidambaram over his reaction to Supreme Court’s verdict, says corrupt Congress continues to cry foul
Slamming him, BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla tweeted that Congress is bound to oppose the move if it is in the interest of the nation and against corruption.

Soon after the Supreme Court dismissed 58 pleas challenging the 2016 demonetisation on Monday, Twitter saw a war of words between the BJP and the Congress. P Chidambaram reacted to the same and accepted the Apex Court’s decision, however, there are still a few things necessary to point out, he said.
Chidambaram also said the SC’s verdict is a welcome slap on the government’s wrist.
Slamming him, BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla tweeted that Congress is bound to oppose the move if it is in the interest of the nation and against corruption. He further said even the dissenting judge the Congress quoted has lauded the noble intentions of DeMo but the corrupt opposition will continue to cry foul.

P Chidambaram, in a Twitter thread, said it is necessary to point out that the majority has not upheld the wisdom of the decision nor has the majority said the stated objectives were achieved.
He further referred to Justice BV Nagarathna, who spoke against the note ban in 2016 among the five-judge committee, and said the dissenting judgement will rank among the most famous dissents recorded in the history of the Supreme Court.
Justice BV Nagarathna called 2016 demonetisation unlawful and cited section 26 of the Reserve Bank of India Act and said that the RBI had not applied its mind independently.
On the other hand, Congress’s Jairam Ramesh reacted to the Supreme Court’s verdict. The party said to say demonetisation has been upheld by the Apex Court is totally misleading and wrong as one honourable judge in her dissenting opinion has said that Parliament should not have been bypassed.
On Monday, the Supreme Court upheld the decision of the Central government taken in 2016 to demonetise the currency notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1000. In a 5-judge bench, 4 judges voted in favour of upholding the note ban whereas one judge dissented.
