The iconic Indian soap opera Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi is making a grand comeback with Season 2, over 16 years after its original run ended in 2008. Produced by Ektaa Kapoor under Balaji Telefilms, the series will reportedly reunite Smriti Irani and Amar Upadhyay, who are set to reprise their beloved roles as Tulsi and Mihir Virani.
The revival, slated to air on Star Plus, has sparked excitement among fans eager to revisit the saga of the Virani family.
According to industry sources, Smriti Irani, now a prominent politician, has begun filming under stringent Z+ security protocols. Measures include taping mobile phones of all crew members except Irani, Upadhyay, and Kapoor, with restricted access near the sets to ensure privacy and safety.
A source revealed, “Only Smriti, Amar, and Ektaa are exempt from the phone restrictions. The Z+ security mandates strict compliance, limiting set footfall.”
Last month, Ektaa Kapoor announced that Season 2 will span 150 episodes, fulfilling her vision to reach a 2,000-episode milestone for the series, which fell short by 150 episodes when it concluded. “The love for this show brought us back to complete this journey. It deserves to hit 2,000 episodes,” Kapoor stated, emphasizing its cultural significance.
The original Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, which aired from July 2000 to November 2008, captivated audiences with its portrayal of Tulsi Virani, the ideal daughter-in-law, navigating family dynamics after marrying Mihir, heir to the Virani business empire. The show, featuring stars like Ronit Roy, Mandira Bedi, and Achint Kaur, became a household name, redefining Indian television.
In a related development, on May 27, 2025, Balaji Telefilms hosted a Mumbai press event to discuss the resurgence of classic soaps, spotlighting Kyunki’s revival. Kapoor highlighted the show’s enduring appeal, crediting its emotional storytelling and iconic characters. The event fueled anticipation, with reports confirming pre-production advancements, though an official premiere date remains pending.
As Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi Season 2 prepares to rekindle nostalgia, the reunion of Irani and Upadhyay under Kapoor’s vision promises a fresh chapter for one of India’s most cherished TV legacies.
