Asia Cup 2022

Asia Cup 2022 may be over with Sri Lanka lifting the trophy for the sixth time. But the drama around it is still unfolding. A new video on the internet has surfaced where some Pakistan fans could be seen cheering pro-Taliban slogans during the Pakistan vs Afghanistan match.

If reader remember correctly then just few days back several videos had made it to the headline, when Afghanistan supported had not only bashed Pakistan fans but had also vandalized the Sharjah International stadium.

But now the reason behind Afghanistan fans’ behavior is out. It seems like some Pakistan supports were provoking them by calling out pro-Taliban slogans. A video being shared on Twitter shows Pakistan fans cheering for their country by degrading the opponents.

And seems like this was enough for Afghanistan fans to take as what they did later was rather unacceptable. The Afghanistan fans did not only bash the Pakistan supported by they also let lose the stadium chairs and used it to hit the opponents. Not just inside the stadium but even outside they were seen hitting Pakistan fans and ruling them out of the arena.

For the unversed, The Taliban returned to power in Afghanistan in 2021, 20 years after their ouster by U.S. troops. Under their harsh rule, they have cracked down on women’s rights and neglected basic services. And if such sensitive matter will be used in a match stadium just the degrade the opponents, then the result will also not be favorable.

Few days back social media was flooded with videos of Pakistan and Afghanistan fans mocking, abusing and taunting each other during the match. The game was being played at UAE’s Sharjah stadium, and riots-like situational videos had surfaced on the internet where fans from both side can also be seen being violent towards each other and damaging the stadium.

However, the match was won by Pakistan, Afghanistan and India were then out of the Asia Cup 2022 race. But even Pakistan could not lift the trophy as last night the Asia Cup 2022 finals was played at Dubai International Stadium. And Sri Lanka defeated Pakistan by 23 runs.
