Bhagwani Devi, 94, wins one gold and two bronze medals at World Masters Athletics Championship
Bhagwani Devi bagged the gold medal in the 100-metre race with a time of 24.74 seconds, and she also won two bronze medals in the Shot Put game.
Nonagenarian Bhagwani Devi Dagar made India proud yet again and proved age is no bar. The 94-year-old Bhagwani Deswal aka Bhagwani Devi of India stunned everyone with her historic win. She clinched one gold medal and two bronze medals at the World Masters Athletics Championships 2022. The sports event was held in Tampere, Finland.
Bhagwani Devi bagged the gold medal in the 100-metre race with a timing of 24.74 seconds, and she also won two bronze medals in Shot Put.
Department of Sports, Ministry of Youth Affairs, and Sports also commended the athlete on Twitter. The tweet read India’s 94-year-old Bhagwani Devi Ji has yet again proved that age is no bar! She won a gold medal at the World Masters Athletics Championships in Tampere in the 100m sprint event with a timing of 24.74 seconds. She also bagged a bronze in Shot put. Truly commendable effort!

Bhagwani Devi has earlier won three gold medals at the National Masters Athletics Championships that was held in Chennai. Around 3500 competitors from 26 states competed in 13 different age groups at the event.
Bhagwani Devi has also won three gold medals in the 100-meter dash, shot put, and javelin throw at the Delhi State Athletics Championship.

IPL 2024: Delhi Capitals thrash Gujarat Titans by 6 wickets
A 3-wicket haul early in the innings by Mukesh Kumar helped DC bowl out GT for 89 in 17.3 overs.
Delhi Capitals defeated Gujarat Titans by six wickets in their IPL 2024 match, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Wednesday. Delhi Capitals reached to 92/4 in 8.5 overs, as Rishabh Pant (16*) and Sumit Kumar (9*) remained unbeaten. For Gujarat Titans bowling attack, Sandeep Warrier took 2 wickets.
A 3-wicket haul early in the innings by Mukesh Kumar helped DC bowl out GT for 89 in 17.3 overs. Rashid Khan was the top-scorer for Gujarat Titans with a knock of 31 runs off 24 deliveries. Mukesh Kumar was the pick of the bowlers for Delhi with figures of 3 for 14 and was well supported by Ishant Sharma who gave another top class performance this season. The Gujarat Titans batsmen were seen struggling as they lost wickets at regular intervals, with the likes of Shubman Gill, Sai Sudharsan and David Miller struggled to make an impact.
Fraser and McGurk gave Delhi Capitals the perfect start, who scored 20 runs off just 9 balls. Porel and Hope ensured that that Delhi Capitals reached to 67 in the powerplay overs as they lost 4 wickets by that time. Sumit Kumar and Rishabh Pant ensured that Delhi Capitals reached victory with 11.1 overs to spare.
Rishabh Pant was in sublime form behind the stumps as he had 2 stumpings and two catches to his name. Pant was given the Player of the Match award for his performance with the gloves and his captaincy in Ahmedabad. Pant’s stunning catch of David Miller earned a lot of praise from Adam Gilchrist who explained why the effort was a tough one. The former Australian wicketkeeper said when the ball is coming at an angle, the tendency is to go to the right. He explained that once the ball started to deviate, the base and technique needed to be right from Pant as he has to go the other way.

KKR captain Shreyas Iyer fined Rs 12 lakh for slow over rate in match against RR
KKR lost to Royals by two wickets on Tuesday at Eden Gardens.
The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) were found guilty of violating an IPL Code of Conduct while playing the Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Tuesday, following their defeat in their second match at the Eden Gardens. The Knight Riders not only dropped their opening game of the IPL 2024 season, but their captain also received a fine.
KKR captain Shreyas Iyer has been fined Rs 12 lakh for maintaining a slow over-rate during an IPL match at Eden Gardens against the Rajasthan Royals.
According to the official notification, Iyer has been charged with a huge fine of Rs 12 lakhs as it was his team’ first of the season offense under IPL’s Code of Conduct and involved a minimum over-rate penalty.
In a release from the IPL, it is said, Shreyas Iyer, the captain of the Kolkata Knight Riders, has been fined after his team maintained a slow over rate during their TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match against Rajasthan Royals at Eden Gardens on April 17.
Meanwhile, this is not the first time in this season when a team has maintained a slow over-rate. Earlier, Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Rant was also fined twice for maintaining a slow over-rate. If his team commits this again, the he along with his will be banned for one match, as per IPL’s Code of Conduct.
In a T20I loss to the Royals on Tuesday, Sunil Narine scored his first century for the Knight Riders. Up till the 18th over, Narine (109 off 56) batted, first partnership with Angkrish Raghuvanshi (30) for 85 runs and then with Andre Russell (13), for 51 runs. For KKR, it was a one-man show. Jos Buttler blasted his way to an unbeaten 60-ball 107 as the visitors completed the chase on the game’s last ball. In response, RR were briefly in major trouble.
While KKR lost their second match in six games, it was the Royals’ sixth win in seven games.
