24-hour daylight and snipers security: Iceland Cricket trolls ECB’s offer to host India vs Pakistan match on neutral venue, see hilarious tweet

An India-Pakistan clash would be a financial boon for England because of the large South Asian population in the country.

Virat Kohli and Babar Azam

India vs Pakistan, the historic cricketing rivalry, has always been the mother of all clashes, despite the last few games resulting in one-sided. It has had its ups and downs but it still engages the people of both countries.

Yet, the India-Pakistan rivalry has been considered iconic in so many ways and the sheer intensity of an India vs Pakistan cricket match is unmatched.

When this battle takes place there, any location transforms into a powerhouse and the grounds transform into battlefields. The India-Pakistan high voltage clash also generates the most money and viewers. This is the reason why the cricket boards are showing interest in hosting the India-Pakistan matches.

In an attempt to revive bilateral cricket between these two Asian giants, Martin Darlow, the Deputy Chairman of the English and Wales Cricket Board, floated the idea with Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairperson Ramiz Raja during his visit to Pakistan ahead of England’s ongoing T20I series against Pakistan.

Ever since the news started doing rounds on social media, the supporters have begun to look forward to India and Pakistan playing in another Test match.

Iceland Cricket’s Twitter account which is known for the occasional trolling came up with a hilarious take on the same.

Reacting to ECB’s proposal to host the India-Pakistan Test series at a neutral venue for the first time in over 15 years, the Iceland Cricket gave a counter-proposal as they took a dig at the English weather conditions and security arrangements.

Iceland cricket officially announce to ICC that they also offer to do the same and can provide near 24 hour daylight in June and July, as well as better Tweets covering the matches. Sniper security too, Iceland Cricket tweeted.

An India-Pakistan clash would be a financial boon for England because of the large South Asian population in the country.

Over the past many years, the matches between both sides have been limited to ICC tournaments, owing to political tensions between both countries.

The last India-Pakistan bilateral series was held in 2012 while the last Test match between the two nations was played 15 years ago.

BCCI, PCB decline England Cricket’s suggestion to play neutral host for India vs Pakistan bilateral Test series

India and Pakistan last played a short bilateral white-ball series back in 2012 in India and the last Test series dates back to 2007.

The Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have declines England and Wales Cricket Board request to host India vs Pakistan bilateral series in England. ECB informally offered to play neutral host to both the neighboring countries but BCCI said chances of that happening in near future is next to nil.

Martin Darlow, the deputy chairman of the England and Wales Cricket Board, had talks with the Pakistan Cricket Board during the current T20 series and offered England’s grounds as venues for a Test series against India in future.

ECB made the offer for its own commercial gains, but the the BCCI sees no such possibilities at least in next few years. Talking about the same, a BCCI official told PTI that ECB spoke to PCB about an Indo-Pak cricket match series. But such decision will not be taken by the cricket board of Pakistan or India but it is the decision of the government. And for the moment, BCCI’s stance remains the same of playing against Pakistan at multi-team events.

For the unversed, India denied inviting Pakistan Cricket Team in India and sending Indian players there after Pakistani terrorist were found involved in Mumbai 26/11 attack. Due to security reasons Indian government banned Pakistani players to play in India and involve in any bilateral series.

Pakistani board used to make lot of money whenever India Pakistan bilateral series happened from broadcasting rights. After this attack Indian government believed that the money Pakistan board making from matches could be used to sponsor terrorism on Indian boarders. They have strong reasons to believe so. After the Mumbai attack Indian authorities captured a terrorist who confessed the crime and gave all detail. But still Pakistani Government didn’t took any action against it.

Currently, after tense political relations between India and Pakistan, BCCI remains firm on not playing Pakistan, irrespective of the fact, whether it will be played at out home grounds, away or at a neutral venue. Back in 2008, also Indian Government took strong stand of not to playing with Pakistan.

Then again both the government took initiative to play with each other and 2012–13 bilateral series was held but due to tension on boarder India never played with Pakistan again in bilateral series. India and Pakistan last played a short bilateral white-ball series back in 2012 in India and the last Test series dates back to 2007.
