Lionel Messi scored twice in a Paris Saint Germain victory over Club Brugge in a crucial Champions League match and qualified for the Round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League. Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City lost to RB Leipzig by 2-1 though they have already qualified for the next round.

Liverpool, on the other hand, crushed AC Milan to maintain their perfect record in the group stage and topped the group with 6 wins in 6 matches they played. Dutch club Ajax, the dark horse of this season’s Champions League, also topped their group and maintained their perfect record in the group stage. Spanish giants Real Madrid defeated Inter Milan by 2-0 and qualified for the next round.

PSG beats Club Brugge

PSG were playing for a much-needed win and their star youngster Kylian Mbappe scored twice within 7 minutes of the game to take an early lead against Brugge, while 7-time Ballon d’Or winner Messi scored twice – one from outside the box. With this win, Paris Saint Germain will be second on the group table after last season’s finalists Manchester City.

Manchester City loses to RB Leipzig

Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City lost to RB Leipzig 2-1 despite dominating possession and some wonderful passes. But top-notch City still lost against an average Leipzig side. However, this loss is not going to affect their qualification for the next round, as they have already topped the group, but in the Champions League, a team with the calibre of Man City should not have lost to a mid-table German side. Riyad Mahrez scored the only goal for City, while for Leipzig, Andre Silva and Dominik Szoboszlai hit the net.

Liverpool tops the group with a win over AC Milan

English giants Liverpool once again showed that defeating it is not going to be easy for anyone. With Salah, Mane, and Firmino running upfront, they are ruthless against any opponents. Liverpool crushed Milan in the match when Milan was desperate to win for next round qualification. But Salah’s equalizer and Divock Origi’s winner eliminated Milan from the knockout stages. AC Milan, who were playing in the Champions League after seven years opened the scoring first, with Fikayo Tomori’s wonderful strike but they didn’t manage to capitalize on their lead and lost to Klopp’s Liverpool.

Defending champions Argentina kicked off their FIFA World Cup 2026 campaign in emphatic fashion, defeating Algeria 3-0 in their Group J opener with Lionel Messi producing a memorable hat-trick.

The Argentine captain once again proved decisive on the biggest stage, scoring all three goals as his side secured maximum points and sent an early warning to the rest of the tournament contenders.

Messi opened the scoring in the first half before adding two more goals after the break to complete his hat-trick. His performance ensured Argentina remained in control throughout the contest and rarely looked troubled by the Algerian side.

The victory was particularly significant as it came in Messi’s landmark 200th international appearance for Argentina. The veteran forward marked the occasion in style, delivering one of the standout individual displays of the tournament so far.

Argentina dominated possession and created the better opportunities throughout the match, while Algeria struggled to find a way past a disciplined Argentine defence. The reigning world champions combined defensive solidity with attacking quality to comfortably secure the result.

The win gives Argentina an ideal start in Group J, where they will next face Austria. Algeria, meanwhile, will look to bounce back when they take on Jordan in their second group-stage fixture.

With Messi showing he remains capable of influencing matches at the highest level, Argentina’s title defence has begun on a highly positive note.
