Team India’s young middle order batsman Shreyas Iyer has been ruled out of the ODI series against New Zealand due to injury. Reportedly, Iyer complained about problem in his back, for which he will go directly to the National Cricket Academy (NCA). Here the seriousness of his injury will be assessed.
After this, the BCCI team will decide whether his injury will be cured here or he will be sent for further treatment in a foreign country. The selectors have given Rajat Patidar a chance in the team instead of Iyer.
In an official tweet, BCCI confirmed that Shreyas Iyer has been ruled out of the three-match ODI series against New Zealand starting January 18 due to a back injury. He has been sent directly to the NCA, where his injury will be assessed and managed. The All India Selection Committee has selected Rajat Patidar as his replacement in place of Iyer.
On the other hand, Rajat Patidar of Madhya Pradesh is still waiting for his debut in the Indian team. He has so far played 50 first class, 51 List A and 45 T20 matches in domestic cricket. He has scored a century in all the three formats. He has 11 centuries to his name in First Class, 3 in List A and 1 century in T20.
