The All India Senior Selection Committee has included fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah in India’s ODI squad for the upcoming 3-match ODI series against Sri Lanka. Bumrah was away from action in cricket since September 2022 and was also ruled out of the ICC T20 World Cup due to his back injury.
Last time Bumrah played for the Indian team was in the T20 match against Australia at home in September last year. Later he had to stay away from two big tournaments like Asia Cup and T20 World Cup. The Indian pacer has undergone rehabilitation and has now been declared fit by the National Cricket Academy (NCA).
Bumrah’s return will strengthen India’s fast bowling department where the team has lacked behind for some time. Moreover, it will be interesting to see how Jasprit Bumrah will be handled by the team management considering his importance for the team in one year. Especially when India has to play 50 overs World Cup at home.
Bumrah has been a vital cog for Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Indian Premier League over the years and all eyes will be on his workload management by the franchise in this year’s tournament (IPL 2023) as well.
A BCCI release on Bumrah’s inclusion read that Bumrah was out of cricketing action since September 2022 and was also ruled out of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup due to a back injury. The fast bowler has undergone rehabilitation and is expected to return to the national team soon. He Has been declared fit by the Cricket Academy (NCA). He will soon join Team India’s ODI squad.”
