After a brief sabbatical, veteran India batter Virat Kohli returns to the cricketing fold as India prepares to face Sri Lanka in a three-match One-Day International series beginning Tuesday. In the assignment, Kohli will be attempting to break two all-time records held by none other than his idol and the God of Cricket, Sachin Tendulkar.
Kohli, who is one of the most prolific batters in the game, recently got a century in a 50-over match. He’d like to pick up where he left off in the encounter against Bangladesh.
Sachin Tendulkar is a name that needs no introduction. Tendulkar set several world records during his stellar career that spanned nearly two decades. Some of them, though, may be shattered by Virat Kohli in the ODI series against Sri Lanka.
Most ODI hundreds at home
When it comes to most centuries in 50-over international cricket, Sachin Tendulkar ranks first. With 19, Virat Kohli is only one tonne behind. If the former India captain scores a few of hundreds against Sri Lanka in the three-match series, he will break Tendulkar’s record.
Most hundreds in ODIs against a single team
Kohli has already scored eight hundreds in one-day internationals against Sri Lanka. Sachin Tendulkar has the same amount of tonnes as the islanders. However, the record for most hundreds against a single opponent is 9, which Tendulkar and Kohli share against the West Indies and Australia, respectively.
Kohli will have 9 hundreds versus Sri Lanka after another century. With two tonnes in the series, the 33-year-old will have 10 triple-digit scores against the Lankans, a feat no one else in the game has accomplished.
