End of an era: Microsoft curtails 27-year-old Internet Explorer, leaves Tweeple nostalgic
The app will finally retire after 27 years of service.

Microsoft is now curtailing one of its oldest browsers, Internet Explorer, after 27 years. Almost no one uses the search engine nowadays, but people are feeling nostalgic as many of their earliest memories on the Internet are associated with this browser. For some, Internet Explorer was their gateway and introduction to the internet.

Remember coming back from school, hurriedly rushing to freshen up, and then coming back to your desktop but then struggling to use the internet because of the slow speed? Internet Explorer has also become the target for jeers because of its slowness.

Last year, Microsoft announced that the company is set to discontinue its service and is bringing in the new Edge browser, which is the successor of IE. It feels like the time has come and Microsoft has finally announced that the desktop application will be retired on June 15.

With just a day left, people are moving to Twitter to share their memories with the search engine optimizer. Some are sharing giggle-worthy memes, while for some it’s no less than nostalgia.

The app will finally retire after 27 years of service. It became the most popular search engine by 1996  because it supported Javascript and allowed users to see JPEGs and GIFs.

It was first launched in 1995 as a Windows 95 add-on package. In 2003, the browser achieved a peak of 95 percent usage, but it was unable to sustain its position, and its user base began to fall gradually.

Many new browsers joined the market, promising better user interfaces, quicker internet speeds, and smoother performance.

After the groundbreaking success of India’s moon mission, Chandrayaan-3, ISRO is gearing up for another mission but this time to the Sun. The India Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is set to launch its first space-based solar mission Aditya L1 on Friday. The launch is scheduled to take place on September 2 at 11:50 a.m. from the Sriharikota spaceport in Andhra Pradesh.

ISRO Chief S Somanath said the space agency was preparing for the launch and the countdown for Aditya L1 will begin today. He said that they were just getting ready for the launch. The rocket and satellite are ready and they have completed the rehearsal for the launch.

Adiya-L1 spacecraft will provide remote observations of the solar corona and in situ observations of the solar wind at L1, the Sun-Earth Lagrangian point. The L1 point is located about 1.5 million kilometers from the Earth.

Exceptionally, this will be India’s first space mission dedicated to observations of the Sun to be launched by the Bengaluru-headquartered space agency.

The ISRO team is ready for the launch, Somnath told the reporters. He said that the rocket, as well as the satellite, are ready with the launch also completed. The Indian space agency has commenced the mission’s countdown on Friday.

Aditya L1 will be placed in a halo orbit around the Lagrange point (L1) of the Sun-Earth system. A satellite that is placed in the halo orbit around the L1 point has the advantage of viewing the Sun continuously without any occultation/eclipses. This provides a greater advantage of observing solar activities and their effect on space weather in real time.

The location shall be a balancing point of the gravitational forces of the Sun and the Earth. The position where the two gravitational forces cancel out each other allows objects to stay at a fixed position, helping in the reduction of the use of fuel by the spacecraft.

The first Indian space mission to study the sun will carry payloads expected to provide crucial information to understand the problem of coronal heating, coronal mass ejection, pre-flare and flare activities, and their characteristics, dynamics of space weather, propagation of particle and fields, etc.
