Battlegrounds Mobile India

The popular battle royale game Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI), a rebranded version of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG), has been mysteriously removed from Google PlayStore and Apple AppStore on Thursday.

Following the government’s order to ban PUBG in India in September 2020 due to security concerns, the South Korean developer Krafton returned to the Indian market in June 2021 with a similar game called BGMI with a few minor changes. However, the reason for the ban on the BGMI is yet to be known.

Google, in a statement to TOI, said that on receipt of the order, following the established process, we have notified the affected developer and have blocked access to the app that remained available on the Play Store in India.

Confirming the development, Krafton said they don’t know how BGMI was removed from the Google Play store and the App store and will inform the users when they’ll get to know.

Rajeev Chandrasekhar, a union minister, has stated that authorities are looking into a media report that a child had killed his mother based on PUBG that he has been playing. According to a media report, a child killed his mother while playing the game PUBG.

LEAs (Law Enforcement Agencies) are looking into this to determine the cause. However, MeitY disabled the PUBG gaming app in 2020, and the game hasn’t been made available in India since, said Chandrasekhar.

According to the reports, Krafton will hold a meeting with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) today to discuss the BGMI ban.

Google services get down globally

Alphabet Inc’s Google services faced a massive global outage on Tuesday morning. According to the outage tracking website Downdetector.com, the Google services including Google Search, Google Maps, Google Photos, and Google Drive were hit by a global outage.

Users attempting to use the search engine were met with a 502 or 500 error. An error page read that the server encountered a temporary error and could not complete your request. Please try again in 30 seconds.

Downdetector showed more than 40,000 incidents of people reporting issues with the world’s largest search engine. However, the services were resumed after facing a brief outage but people were quick to share their dismay on Twitter.

Some of them were even missing the turtle-slow browser, Internet Explorer while some switched to Twitter to confirm if Google crashed down.
