Kerala: Couple found dead at home after daughter flees home to get married
During the investigation, it was found that their daughter ran away from home and got married despite objections from the family.

A couple was found dead in their house at Cherai, near Vyapeen Island in Kerala’s Ernakulam district on Tuesday. The case has been registered with Munambam Police. The police have identified their death as a suspected case of suicide.
According to the reports, the deceased, identified as Radhakrishnan and his wife Anitha, used to live near the Bakery Bus Stop in Cherai.
During the investigation, it was found that their daughter ran away from home and got married despite objections from the family. The relatives of the deceased couple alleged that this was the reason for their suicide.
Reportedly, there were regular fights between the couple and their daughter. The couple was against their daughter’s love marriage. So the woman fled home and decided to marry a man chosen by her.
The relatives of the deceased said the couple couldn’t be able to handle this and hence they decided to take this step.
Munamban Police has initiated a probe into this matter.
Earlier, two girls fled their homes to marry each other in Mumbai. The family lodged a complaint under the Bidupur Police Station area in Vaishali district and they were caught at Hajipur Railway Station.
During interrogation, the girls said they had been in a relationship for the past two years but their family was strongly against it due to social stigma. The police said the elder girl was posing as a boy with a short hairstyle.
SHO said the girls were living in a hotel. He further said that the elder girl had fled to Mumbai with Rs 45,000 but they decided to return home when they left with only Rs 3,000.

A man was convicted and handed three consecutive life sentences for raping and impregnating his 15-year-old daughter in Kerala’s Malappuram.

A man was convicted and handed three consecutive life sentences for raping and impregnating his 15-year-old daughter in Kerala’s Malappuram.
On Monday, Manjeri Fast Track Special Court judge Rajesh K, sentenced the man to serve three life terms after he was convicted for multiple offences including rape, aggravated sexual assault and penetrative sexual assault, as well as intimidation of the victim under the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Special public prosecutor A Somasundaran, who represented the victim said the court has directed that the man shall remain imprisoned for the rest of his natural life, adding that a fine of Rs 6.6 lakh was also imposed on him.
Revealing details about the case, Somasundaran said the man repeatedly raped his daughter and the first instance of the sexual assault occurred in March 2021 when they were home alone. He said the man threatened to kill her mother if she objected.
At the time, the minor girl was attending an online class due to Covid-19 pandemic when her father, a teacher at a local madrassa, dragged her into his bedroom where he raped her.
This ordeal of rape and sexual assaults continued till October 2021 and only came to a halt when her school reopened after the pandemic restrictions were lifted in November 2021.

The girl complained of abdominal pain during that period and was taken to a doctor who couldn’t diagnose any illness. Later, the victim revealed her ordeal when she taken to a government medical college after complaints of stomach pain again in January 2022, where her pregnancy came to light.
Police said the father was arrested and booked under POSCO. The pregnancy was medically terminated and DNA samples of the foetus, the victim and her rapist were collected which revealed the girl father was indeed the abuser.
On the basis of the DNA evidence and statements given by the victim and her mother, the accused was convicted and sentenced to a triple life term.
The police also ensured a speedy trial so that the accused could not get an interim bail and the victim or the witnesses, a senior official said.

Five youth were killed in a horrific accident on Monday after their car collided with a lorry near Ambalappuzha in the Alappuzha district of Kerala. The mishap took place at around 1:30 am on the national highway.

According to the reports, the car was on the way to Thiruvananthapuram when it collided with the lorry loaded with rice. The report states lorry was en route to Alappuzha from Andhra Pradesh.
The Ambalappuzha Police said four out of five people died on the spot, while the fifth person succumbed to his injuries during treatment at the hospital. The police have taken the bodies of the deceased for an autopsy at the Alappuzha Medical College Hospital.
The deceased have been identified as Prasad, Shiju, Amal, Sachin and Sumod. As per the reports, four of them hailed from Thiruvananthapuram while the other one was from Kollam. The youth were employed at the ISRO canteen in Thiruvananthapuram.
The police have taken the lorry driver and his helper into custody.
Earlier today, three people were killed, while 10 others were injured after a crane came crashing down on them during the Draupathi Amman festival in a village near Chennai in Tamil Nadu.
The mishap took place during the Mayileru event at the Mandi Amman temple in Nemili, where around 1500 people had gathered to celebrate the festival. A police official said that an investigation has been launched to reveal the cause of the mishap.

A video has come to light from Kerala’s Guruvayur Temple where a woman who is set to be married was seen playing the ethnic instrument of Chenda at her wedding ceremony. According to reports, the woman’s father is also a master of the instrument.
In the video, a woman with bridal clothes can be seen inside the premise of the temple as she hangs the instrument on her shoulder and plays it while other Chenda players also accompany her. The bride can also be seen grooving as she plays the tunes on her Chenda while she enjoys the whole event.
The video also shows a relative joining in with the bride to groove and play another instrument, the Chenda players can also be seen happily accommodating the bride and playing the instrument alongside her. The father can also be seen joining in by the end of the video.
So far, the video has been watched over 440 thousand times on Twitter after it went viral.
