In a major accident, three people, including a 12-year-old boy, were crushed to death after two bikes collided in Mecheri in Tamil Nadu’s Salem district on Sunday. According to the reports, when the bike hit each other, the boy and the woman fell on the road and were crushed by an SUV that was coming from behind.

Annapoorani, her husband Moorthy and their son were returning home from a temple in Mettur when the bike coming in the opposite direction rammed Moorthy’s bike near Kullamudaiyanur and they fell on the road. Soon the SUV came behind Moorthy’s bike and ran over Annapoorani and her son.

The 40-year-old Annapoorani and her son M Mythish died on the spot while Moorthy escaped with injuries. Another bike driver S Rajendra, 60, was immediately rushed to the hospital but he succumbed to injuries on the way to the hospital.

Annapoorani and M Mythish were the resident of Pannapatty near Omalur and S Rajendran was the resident of Mettur.

Earlier, a six-month-old baby was crushed to death after a bike fell on the road on the Pune-Nashik highway. The bike carrying the baby slipped on the road while trying to overtake the tractor. The mother, who was riding on the back of the bike, was holding her six-month-old baby when the child fell to the ground and died on the spot. The mishap was reported from Maharashtra’s Rajgurunagar area.

In a shocking incident, a man allegedly hurled a bottle of acid on his wife and her lawyers at court complex in Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu on Thursday, officials said.

According to the police, the victim, Kavitha had reached the district court complex in Coimbatore in connection with a hearing of a case when her husband, Sivakumar, brazenly threw a bottle of acid at her face, injuring her and at least three others in the attack.

The victims, Kavitha and her lawyers, sustained burn injuries in the acid attack and were rushed to a nearby government hospital for medical attention.

An official said Sivakumar was overpowered and pinned down by some lawyers who witnessed the incident and later handed over to the police.

Giving details he said that police saved Sivakumar from a mob that gathered after the attack and wanted to thrash him, adding that the accused had carried the acid in a water bottle.

The official further said that the accused has been arrested and a case registered against him under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), adding that further investigation is underway to determine Sivakumar’s motive behind the attack.

In a similar incident, a shocking video emerged back in January, where a man from the Cooperganj area of UP’s Kanpur claimed that his wife threw acid on his face.

As per reports at the time, a heated argument broke out between the couple, where the husband asked her why she came so late home, and the agitated lady lost her temper and threw acid from the bottle on his face.

A video of the incident had gone viral on social media platforms.

With an injured face, the victim went to the police station and registered his complaint about the incident. After investigating and questioning him, police arrested the woman for the offense.

A massive fire engulfed a firecracker unit in Tamil Nadu’s Kanchipuram district on Wednesday leaving at least seven people dead while 15 others received severe burn injuries, reports said.

As per reports, an enormous blaze consumed a firecracker making unit at Vazhathottam, 10 kilometers from Kanchipuram, killing at least seven people and leaving fifteen others wounded.

A report quoted Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Services DGP, Abhash Kumar as saying that the building collapsed due to the gigantic inferno and many people are still feared trapped inside. The officer said that a joint rescue operation was launched by the firemen, the Kanchipuram district police along with Rescue Services personnel and local residents to pull out survivors from the torched building.

DGP Kumar said the firecracker unit had a valid license and that an investigation has been launched to ascertain the exact cause of the fire.

Local reports said that the injured, who suffered burn injuries, have been rushed nearby hospital for medical attention.

In a similar incident, ten people, including three children, were injured after a fire erupted at a seven-storey residential building in Mumbai’s Mulund West last week. The incident happened at around 2:55 pm at the Jagruti Society in Vithhal Nagar.

Rescue services and firemen successfully had rescued 80 people trapped in the burning building.

Officials at the time had said that the fire out in the electric meter room on the ground floor of the building and the smoke from the meter room spread to all its seven floors.

Fire brigade chief Sanjay Manjrekar said it was not a major fire but the smoke had spread to all the floors. He had said that people got scared of the smoke, came running and got trapped.

The official said that the fire was confined to electric wiring, electric installation, electric main cables, all meters, all switches, etc. in a common electric meter cabin on the ground floor plus the upper seven floored residential building.

A 53-year-old female professor from Anna University, Tamil Nadu was hit on her head, dragged along the road while in an unconscious state, and robbed by a drunk man.

The incident was a result of the woman refusing to lend money to the man in an inebriated state. Reports said the attack took place in Trichy and the accused has been identified as Senthil Kumar.

The hideous act was caught on camera and the video has been making rounds on social media since then. A passerby captured the video on his mobile phone and informed the police about the assault and submitted the video as proof of the FIR.

In the viral video, the accused can be seen dragging Professor Sitalakshmi on the road through her leg. The robber later also met with an accident and injured his leg while he was trying to escape on the professor’s two-wheeler.

Reports further said the accused has been arrested by the local police from Pazhamanari, Tamil Nadu after Sitalakshmi’s complaint and is currently undergoing treatment. The incident took place on Sunday, March 12, when Sitalakshmi was taking a walk alone near a school.

Senthil Kumar first asked her to lend him some money and on being refused, he picked up a wooden plank from nearby and hit her on the head with it. He then dragged Sitalakshmi from the road to the footpath, took her vehicle keys and stole her mobile phone. He tried to flee but could not succeed.
