Lok Sabha elections 2024: AIADMK breaks alliance with BJP, NDA
AIADMK deputy coordinator K P Munusamy stated that the state leadership of the BJP has been continuously making unnecessary remarks about their former leaders, their general secretary EPS and their cadres for the past one year.

In a major setback to the BJP-led NDA ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the AIADMK on Monday announced to break alliance with the BJP. AIADMK unanimously passed a resolution in this regard.
Announcing the decision, AIADMK deputy coordinator K P Munusamy stated that the state leadership of the BJP has been continuously making unnecessary remarks about their former leaders, their general secretary EPS and their cadres for the past one year.
The major decision follows months of speculation over the strained relationships between the AIADMK and the BJP. Notably, Tamil Nadu BJP chief K Annamalai repeatedly commented against AIADMK leaders and that did not earn him any wrath as the BJP was seemingly okay with Annamalai’s attack.
As far as reports are concerned, even though the AIADMK’s relationship with Annamalai had not been smooth for more than a year, the latter’s observations on Annadurai for the last couple of weeks had provoked the latest round of spat between the two parties.
AIADMK spokesperson D Jayakumar termed Annamalai a destructive pest for his comments on Tamil Nadu’s first chief minister CN Annadurai and this back and forth between the two allies clouded their future. The decision was welcomed by the AIADMK party workers and they celebrated the announcement by bursting crackers in Chennai.
This break-up was developing in the background when K Palaniswami met Amit Shah on September 14. Following that, an AIADMK delegation made a trip to Delhi where they are believed to have discussed the alliance issue with BJP chief JP Nadda and BJP leader Piyush Goyal.
As per reports, these trips did not come up with any positive results as the BJP national leadership did not intervene in the state-level feud. Meanwhile, AIADMK is not part of the opposition bloc Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance. It affirmed on Monday that it will lead a separate front in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Following a day after he was publicly abused, MP Danish Ali told NDTV that he had been unable to sleep and was on the verge of a mental breakdown. The BSP MP also added that he was considering quitting the Parliament if no action is taken against Ramesh Bidhuri.
On Sunday, MP Ali was targeted by another BJP MP, Nishikant Dubey, over allegations he had used casteist slurs against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said that he feared the comment was to provoke his physical lynching outside the Parliament since the verbal lynching had already begun.
Speaking on the matter, Danish Ali stated that BJP MP Nishikant Dubey’s letter to the Lok Sabha Speaker is to create a narrative pertaining to his lynching outside Parliament as his verbal lynching already took place. BJP MP Nishikant Dubey had demanded the Speaker to investigate Mr Ali’s indecent words and conduct. Nishikant Dubey’s demand was backed by a third BJP MP.
In addition, BJP MP Ravi Kisan Shukla on Sunday also wrote to the Speaker and demanded an inquiry into Danish Ali’s unparliamentary acts and language. In his letter, Ravi Shukla blamed Ramesh Bidhuri’s quite inappropriate comments on continuous heckling and disturbance by Danish Ali.
On the day of the incident, Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla took serious note of the foul language and warned the BJP MP of strict action if the behaviour is repeated. On the other hand, opposition MP’s were quick to point out that non-BJP lawmakers had been suspended or even barred from a full session for less horrific remarks.
