EC allots Two Swords and Shield symbol to Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena faction, Udhhav Thackeray gets Torch
On October 8, former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray told the Election Commission (EC) that Eknath Shinde can’t claim Shiv Sena’s symbol bow and arrow as he voluntarily resigned from the party. The EC asked Udhhav Thackeray to reply to the Commission with his comments and relevant documents.
The Election Commission of India (EC) today allotted the ‘two swords and shield’ symbol to the Eknath Shinde faction of Shiv Sena, Balasahebbanchi Shiv Sena. Earlier, the Uddhav faction Shiv Sena, Shiv Sena Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray, got a ‘flaming torch’ symbol from the EC.
Eknath Shinde wrote on Twitter that they were the true inheritors of the strong Hindutva thoughts of Shiv Sena chief Balasaheb Thackeray.
In a notification, the EC said it has resembled an erstwhile reserved symbol ‘Do Talwarein aur Ek Dhal (Two Swords & Shield)’ of ‘People’s Democratic Movement’ which was derecognized as a state party in 2004… On receipt of his request dated 11.10.2022, the Commission decided to declare ‘Do Talwarein aur Ek Dhal (Two Swords & Shield)’ to be a free symbol and alloted it… till the final order was passed in the dispute.
Sharing a visual of the party’s new symbol, Uddhay Thackeray wrote on Twitter that Shiv Sena has been renamed as Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray.

The EC asked Udhhav Thackeray to reply to the Commission with his comments and relevant documents.
However, current Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde challenged his claim and said that this was not his (Udhhav Thackeray’s) private limited company. The Shiv Sena was of Shiv Sainik who have given their sweat for it. Not for people like him, who did partnership (with Congress) and sold it.

Bengaluru police arrest Tejasvi Surya on charge of inciting riots in the state
The complaint alleges that Tejasvi’s actions during a protest in Bengaluru, with regard to the recent assault of a shopkeeper, was aimed at inciting religious sentiments and fostering communal hatred. The protest in question started from an assault on a shopkeeper in Bengaluru’s Cubbonpet.
BJP MP Tejasvi Surya was arrested by Bengaluru Police on Tuesday on charge of inciting riots in the state. Karnataka Congress also filed a complaint against him to the State Chief Election Officer for the breach of Moral Code of Conduct.
According to reports the shopkeeper was targeted for playing Hanuman Chalisa during the azaan. An FIR registered on March 18 states that he was assaulted for playing loud music. While 3 individuals have been arrested in connection with the assault, the police are investigating Mukesh’s claims that he was targeted for playing the Hanuman Chalisa.
Tejasvi Surya said immediately Mukesh and the neighbouring shopkeepers tried to reach the nearest police station to register an FIR. Even after submitting a detailed written complaint, the local police did not register an FIR. It was only after the intervention of PC Mohan, himself and local BJP leaders that the FIR was registerted at a belated stage. Meanwhile, the Bengaluru Police said that during the Azaan time, when a shopkeeper played a song loudly near Siddana Layout, in Bengaluru, an altercation occurred between a group of people and the shopkeeper.
The complaint stated that these actions violated the directives of the Supreme Court and the Election Commission, which prohibits inciting communal, caste and religious sentiments during elections. They gave out calls for Hanuman Chalisa recitation and chanted religious slogans. The police had not given permission for the protest due to the prevailing Model Code of Conduct for elections.

Former Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren’s sister-in-law Sita Soren joins BJP after quitting JMM
Ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, former Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren’s sister-in-law Sita Soren joined BJP today.
Sita Soren, the sister-in-law of former Jharkhand chief minister Hemant Soren and a legislator for Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), joined BJP today, March 19. Hours before joining the BJP, Sita Soren announced her resignation from the JMM, citing of being neglected and isolated in the state’s ruling party.
At the BJP’s headquarters in New Delhi, Sita Soren joined the party in the presence of party’s national general secretary Vinod Tawde, and Jharkhand poll in-charge Laxmikant Bajpai.
The three-term MLA’s decision to join the BJP is encouraging for the party’s attempts to strengthen ties with the scheduled tribes, the JMM’s main vote base.
Sita Soren wrote her resignation letter to the party supremo and her father-in-law Shibu Soren, in which she expressed her grief and said the JMM had not given her and her family enough assistance after her husband Durga Soren passed away.
Reluctantly, Sita Soren announced her resignation from the party’s primary membership, saying that she felt abandoned.
She expressed her dismay as well, pointing out that the party has deviated from its tenets by accepting individuals whose beliefs conflict with its ethos. Sita said she has learned that her family and she are the targets of a conspiracy. The former JMM MLA said, she had no choice except to submit her resignation.
JMM’s spokesman Supriyo Bhattacharyya acknowledged hearing about the resignation when he was contacted for comment, but he said he had not yet received the formal letter.
Meanwhile, following her first election as an MLA in 2009 from the Jama Assembly constituency, Sita climbed to the position of national general secretary within the party.
She contested for the Jama assembly seat again in 2014 and registered her victory. She won the seat again in 2019.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha election, the Congress, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, and ASJU each won one seat, while the BJP secured 11 seats with a 51.9 percent vote share.
