An elderly man allegedly committed suicide days after he was punished in a Taliban-esque manner, by being shackled to a tree and by iron chains, tortured and assaulted by reportedly the family of a girl who eloped with his son in a village of Chhatarpur district in Madhya Pradesh.
A video of the horrific incident which went viral on social media on Monday, shows the man, identified as Udha Ahirwar, a resident of Panchampur village, chained to a tree—hand and feet—as a woman, presumably his wife feeds him food and water.
According to reports, Ahirwar’s son, Shankar Ahirwar, works as a labour in Rajasthan with the prime accused, Zandu Ahirwar’s son-in-law, a resident of Peera village. Shankar reportedly eloped with Zandu’s granddaughter after the couple fell in love.
The couple got married last month and since then Zandu allegedly began torturing Shankar’s parents, reports said.
Local reports said that on March 2, Zandu Ahirwar brought Udha to Bila village from Panchampur where he chained to a tree for two days and also assaulted the elderly man. After being released, Udha went back to his native village with his wife where he later died by suicide allegedly.

On Monday, March 13, Udha’s wife found him hanging from a tree after she returned home from some work.
A police official said that a case of wrongful restraint and abetment to suicide was registered against six accused, including Zandu Ahirwar.
However, Udha’s family has accused Zandu, the girl’s father, among six people of forcing their way into the man’s home and hanging him from a tree. Demanding action, the victim’s family and relatives have handed a memorandum to Superintendent of Police (SP) Sachin Sharma. The family have accused Zandu, Saria, Suresh, Bhagirath, Sunil, Ganesh, Raju and Ramnaresh Ahirwar of torturing Udha and allegedly hanging him after they barged into his house
