Amidst condemnation by UN Security Council for its latest missile launch over Japan as “outrageous”, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, presided over another “intermediate-range strategic ballistic rocket launching drill” of the Strategic force at dawn time of Tuesday.
According to KCNA Watch “Involved in the drill were Hwasong artillery units of the KPA Strategic Force tasked with striking the bases of the U.S. imperialist aggressor forces located in the Pacific operational theater in contingency and intermediate-range strategic ballistic rocket Hwasong-12.” It was clear indication towards Guam, a US island in the Western Pacific.
It further said, “As known to the world, the intermediate-range strategic ballistic rocket launching drill of the KPA Strategic Force was conducted as a part of the muscle-flexing to counter the Ulji Freedom Guardian joint military drills the U.S. and the South Korean puppet forces finally kicked off in disregard of the DPRK’s meaningful and crucial warning.”
The report says, “In the drill the rocket operational capacity of the Hwasong artillery units of the KPA Strategic Force for an actual war and the combat efficiency of the newly equipped intermediate-range strategic ballistic rocket were all proved perfect.”
On Tuesday, United Nations Security Council (UNSC) condemned North Korea’s latest missile launch over Japan as “outrageous” as Pyongyang hails the launch as successful.
Following an emergency session, the 15-member UNSC said that the launch deliberately undermined peace and stability in the region, demanding that Pyongyang take “immediate, concrete actions” to “reduce tensions in the Korean Peninsula and beyond.”
However, Russia and China said US military activity in the region was partly to blame for the increase in the tensions, and urged for negotiations.
CNN reports that North Korea’s launch of a missile over Japan was a prelude to more military operations directed as the American territory of Guam in Western Pacific. The North Korean state media says that the launch was “the first step of the military operation of the (North Korean military) in the Pacific and meaningful prelude to containing Guam.”
Reacting to the new developments, George Charfaruros, Guam security advisor has reportedly said, “We knew, based on North Korea events in previous years, that with the joint exercise between the US, South Korea, and its Allies, we can expect rhetoric and activity in North Korea.”
Following North Korea’s missile launching over Japanese sky, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe denounced the move on Tuesday calling it the “most serious and grave” threat. He said, “We will do our utmost to protect people’s lives. This reckless act of launching a missile that flies over our country is an unprecedented, serious and important threat.”
Japanese PM also called US President Donald Trump and conversed with him for 40-minutes. The two leaders agreed to call for an immediate emergency UN Security Council meeting “and increase the pressure towards North Korea.” Trump reiterated that US “stands with Japan 100%.”
Guam is an unincorporated and organized territory of the US situated in the western Pacific Ocean. Earlier this month North Korea warned that it might launch mid-range ballistic missiles in waters within 30-40 kms off Guam after exchange of threats between North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and US President Donald Trump.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
