The much-awaited psychological crime thriller Cuttputlli starring Akshay Kumar, Rakul Preet Singh, Chandrachur Singh, and Sargun Mehta finally premiered on Disney+Hotstar on September 2.

Helmed by Ranjit M Tewari, Cuttputlli is the official Hindi remake of the 2018 Tamil film Ratsasan.

Cuttputlli has been produced by Vashu Bhagnani, Jackky Bhagnani, and Deepshikha Deshmukh. The plot of the film revolves around a cop on a mission, played by Akshay Kumar, who tracks down a child abduction racket.

The film is out on the OTT platform Disney+Hotstar and so are the reviews. Apart from cinema lovers, leading news websites have also shared their reviews of Ranjit M Tewari’s directorial.

“Nothing about this thriller, which lacks thrills, works the way it should. Instead of tension, we get a mix of tired family drama and romance in this Akshay Kumar film,” reviewed The Indian Express.

Cuttputlli review by The Quint

Pratikshya Mishra, in her review, says the Akshay Kumar starrer makes little sense as a good premise somehow also translates to a decent plot but it sways around without an anchor.

“The film only works when it focuses on its strength as a thriller…almost. A sadistic serial killer without a motive is not a new concept to have in films of the genre and Cuttputlli relies on shock value to inspire empathy (one must assume),” reviewed The Quint.

Cuttputlli review by The Free Press Journal

For Rohit Bhatnagar, Cuttputlli has the most cliche narrative in the first 20 minutes and obvious slo-mo entries of the leads.

“Ranjit M Tewari tries hard to play with the genre but he makes a subdued canny film of 2 hours 14 minutes. After ‘Bellbottom’, ‘Cuttputlli’ is his second offering in a thriller zone. However, ‘Lucknow Central’ (2017) also had a good subject but too scattered screenplay made it an avoidable watch,” reviewed The Free Press Journal.

Cuttputlli review by India Today

Nairita Mukherjee, in her review, says Ratsasan’s flaws follow Akshay’s Cuttputli. The review also says Cuttputli is not a bad watch.

“Ratsasan’s flaws follow Akshay’s Cuttputlli. Contrived plot points are where a thriller chokes and both Ratsasan and Cuttputlli have that about them. Yet, by and large, it is a good watch, simply because it holds on to the original so tightly,” reviewed India Today.

Cuttputlli review by News18

Reviewed by Zinia Bandyopadhyay, Cuttputlli will keep you hooked but has stretched climax.

“All in all, the film would manage to hook you, but only if you watch with a clear head, and if you have not watched the original. There are quite a few distractions too, but overall the film does manage to maintain its pace, and hold the audience’s attention,” reviewed News18.

Cuttputlli review by koimoi.com

Shubham Kulkarni asks Akshay to scream louder than uncomfortable car scene if someone is forcing him to do such films.

“The film literally forgets everyone in the last 15 minutes because how else will you highlight Akshay Kumar if Sargun Mehta is acting better in the frame?” reviewed koimoi.com.

Dhurandhar review: Ranveer Singh roars back, Akshaye Khanna shines in intense spy thriller

Ranveer Singh returns with a ferocious performance in Dhurandhar, supported by Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt, and a gripping espionage storyline set against real historical events.

Dhurandhar review

Ranveer Singh makes a striking return to the big screen with Dhurandhar, delivering a fierce, layered performance in Aditya Dhar’s ambitious spy thriller. Blending historical terror incidents with a fictional revenge saga, the film explores India’s covert response to cross-border terrorism through the secret project ‘Dhurandhar’.

A brutal world built around revenge and espionage

Set around the IC-814 Kandahar hijack and the 2001 Parliament attack, Dhurandhar opens with Ajay Sanyal, an Intelligence Bureau officer played by R Madhavan, who strongly opposes releasing captured terrorists. Despite his resistance, bureaucracy prevails, setting the stage for the covert mission he later leads.

The project introduces its central weapon — Humza Ali Mazari, later revealed to be Jaskirat Singh Rangil — portrayed by Ranveer Singh with ferocity and emotional depth. Dropped straight into Karachi’s dangerous Lyari district, Humza navigates a nexus of gangs, politicians, and the ISI, with the narrative also touching upon tensions between local Pakistanis and Baloch communities.

Performances that elevate the film

Akshaye Khanna nearly steals the spotlight as a feared Lyari gangster inspired by Rehman ‘Dakait’ Baloch. Sanjay Dutt’s portrayal of SP Chaudhry Aslam brings an intimidating presence, while Arjun Rampal’s Major Iqbal leaves a lingering impact despite limited screen time.

Sara Arjun plays Yalina with conviction, and the film also features an unrecognisable Gaurav Gera in a surprise appearance.

Music, violence, and a split narrative

Shashwat Sachdev’s background score stands out, weaving classic Pakistani melodies with Indian retro hits to complement the film’s shifting tones. Viewers should be prepared for intense brutality, graphic torture scenes, and sudden shifts in narrative style — especially in a second half that feels markedly different from the first.

The episodic structure, archival footage, and mix of real and fictional characters add layers, though some may find the format distracting.

Ending that sets up part two

While the film does not end on a dramatic cliffhanger, its teaser for the second part — scheduled for March 19, 2026 — ensures audiences will return to witness the conclusion of Humza’s journey.

Slow start for 120 Bahadur on day one

The action-drama opened to modest numbers on Friday, collecting Rs2.35 crore on its first day. Despite pre-release buzz around Farhan Akhtar’s performance, the film has begun its run on the lower side.

De De Pyaar De 2 maintains its advantage

Meanwhile, De De Pyaar De 2 continues its steady run. On its eighth day, the film maintained an edge over 120 Bahadur in overall earnings, according to media. The strong hold of the Ajay Devgn-led sequel appears to have impacted the new release’s opening day business.
