Sharanya Iyer shares her 2024 travel expenses, including trips to Greenland, Iceland, South Africa, and more.

Travel influencer Sharanya Iyer has taken social media by storm with a recent Instagram reel, detailing how she spent a significant portion of her Rs 50 lakh budget in 2024. A large part of this hefty sum was allocated to travel expenses, which has captured the attention of her followers and internet users alike.

In her viral video, Iyer shared an in-depth breakdown of her 2024 expenses, revealing that she spent approximately Rs 20 lakh on trips to various international destinations. Flights alone accounted for around Rs 5 lakh. Her travels included a high-budget journey to Greenland costing Rs 3 lakh, followed by three trips to Iceland at Rs 2.5 lakh. Additionally, she spent Rs 1 lakh for visits to Thailand and Laos, Rs 1.5 lakh on a trip to Madeira, and a lavish Rs 8 lakh trip to South Africa with her parents. To top it off, her “European Summer” cost an additional Rs 60,000. Interestingly, Iyer also won Rs 40,000 at a casino during her European trip, which likely helped offset some of her travel costs.

Beyond her globetrotting adventures, Iyer also spent substantial amounts on other personal expenses, including Rs 22 lakh on a new car and Rs 5 lakh on medical bills not covered by insurance. She emphasized that her breakdown did not account for daily living expenses or spending on food and beverages.

In her Instagram caption, Iyer reflected on her shift from being a frugal saver to indulging in significant purchases, with encouragement and support from her father and friends. “I used to be such an obsessive saver and spend sparingly on the ‘big’ things. 2024 changed that, and it brought me so much joy and a sense of safety in an otherwise difficult year. Here’s to more of this in 2025!” she wrote, celebrating the personal growth and happiness she found through her spending.

The video quickly garnered attention online, with viewers sharing their reactions in the comments. Many praised Iyer’s approach, with some even likening her spending habits to an investment in her happiness and experiences. Others were curious about how she could afford such a lifestyle and questioned whether her trips were sponsored. Iyer responded by clarifying that, while she does receive some sponsored opportunities, she funds a significant portion of her travel herself.

Reactions in the comment section ranged from admiration to humor, with one user writing, “I see it as an investment in your soul,” while another joked, “My middle-class mindset screaming.” Some users were critical, stating that the amount of money needed for such extensive travel should also be a subject of conversation in influencer culture. One comment humorously remarked, “Meanwhile, finance influencers are experiencing trauma after this reel.”

Sharanya Iyer’s openness about her spending habits has sparked an engaging discussion online, with many reflecting on the balance between personal enjoyment and financial responsibility. As the new year approaches, it remains to be seen how Iyer’s followers will react to her 2025 travel goals, with some already asking for tips on how to make travel more affordable.

This viral moment highlights not only the evolving role of influencers but also the ongoing conversation around spending, travel, and financial priorities.

A 37-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly stealing a diamond earring valued at ₹1 lakh, along with ₹35,000 in cash and USD 500 from the residence of actor Poonam Dhillon in Mumbai.

According to reports, the suspect, identified as Sameer Ansari, had been hired to paint the actor’s apartment in the Khar area. He worked at the property between December 28, 2024, and January 5, 2025, during which he reportedly took the items from an unlocked cupboard. The arrest took place on Monday.

After the theft, Ansari spent ₹9,000 to host a party for his fellow workers who helped with the painting. The police have since recovered ₹25,000 in cash, the USD 500, and the stolen diamond earring.

The theft was discovered when Poonam’s son, Anmol, returned from Dubai on January 5, leading her manager, Sandesh Chaudhary, to file a police report. Although the actor primarily resides in her Juhu home, her son sometimes stays in the Khar flat. Ansari has been charged under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS), and further investigations are ongoing.

Poonam Dhillon is well-known for her role in the 1979 film “Noorie” and has appeared in several popular movies, including “Red Rose” (1980), “Dard” (1981), “Romance” (1983), “Sohni Mahiwal” (1984), “Teri Meherbaniyan” (1985), “Samundar” (1986), “Saveraywali Gaadi” (1986), “Karma” (1986), “Naam” (1986), and “Maalamaal” (1988). She was also a contestant on Bigg Boss in 2009.

In addition to her film work, she has starred in various television series and web shows, such as “Kittie Party” (2002–2004), “Ekk Nayi Pehchaan” (2013–2014), “Dil Hi Toh Hai” (2018), and “Dil Bekaraar” (2021). Last year, Poonam was elected president of the Cine and TV Artistes Association (CINTAA).

Elon Musk roasts Justin Trudeau after he rejects US-Canada merger call by Trump

Echoing Trump’s sentiments, Musk referred to Trudeau as the “governor of Canada” and suggested that his opinions no longer matter since he plans to step down as Prime Minister.

Tech billionaire and Tesla CEO Elon Musk humorously took aim at Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau following Trudeau’s assertion that Canada would never become part of the US, a notion frequently floated by President-elect Donald Trump.

Echoing Trump’s sentiments, Musk referred to Trudeau as the “governor of Canada” and suggested that his opinions no longer matter since he plans to step down as Prime Minister.

“Girl, you’re not the governor of Canada anymore, so it doesn’t really matter what you say,” Musk tweeted, in response to Trudeau’s recent announcement about resigning from his positions in the Liberal Party and as Prime Minister amid declining approval ratings.

Trump has been playfully teasing Trudeau by calling him the “governor” since Trudeau suggested that if Canada couldn’t manage its economic challenges, it might as well become the 51st US State, particularly in response to aggressive tariffs.

Musk has been critical of Trudeau ever since the results of the US election were announced, predicting Trudeau’s removal and calling him “an insufferable tool.” Following Trudeau’s resignation earlier this week, Musk’s pointed comment gained attention, as he tweeted, “2025 is looking good.”

On Tuesday, Trump intensified his rhetoric against Canada in light of potential trade tensions, declaring that he would use “economic force” to push for Canada’s annexation. When asked if he was considering military action, Trump responded with a firm “no” but indicated that hefty tariffs on Canadian goods could be on the table.

“You get rid of that artificially drawn line, and you take a look at what that looks like, and it would also be much better for national security. Don’t forget, we basically protect Canada,” Trump remarked.

In response, Trudeau firmly rejected Trump’s implications, stating, “There isn’t a snowball’s chance in hell that Canada will become part of the United States. Workers and communities in both our countries benefit from being each other’s biggest trading and security partners.”

Martin Guptill, one of New Zealand’s premier cricketers, has announced his retirement from international cricket at the age of 38. During his illustrious 14-year career (2009–2022), Guptill played 367 matches for the Blackcaps across all formats, scoring 23 international centuries and setting multiple records in white-ball cricket.

Guptill retires as New Zealand’s leading T20I run-scorer, with 3,531 runs in 122 matches. In ODIs, he ranks third on New Zealand’s all-time list with 7,346 runs, trailing only behind Ross Taylor and Stephen Fleming. He made a memorable debut in 2009, becoming the first New Zealander to score a century in his first ODI against the West Indies at Eden Park, and later that year was included in the ICC’s World ODI XI.

His career is marked by several iconic moments, particularly his record-breaking 237 not out against the West Indies in the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup quarter-finals at Wellington, which stands as the highest individual score in a World Cup match and New Zealand’s first ODI double-century. Other notable innings include an unbeaten 189 against England in 2013 and 180 not out against South Africa in 2017, both of which are among the top four ODI scores for the Blackcaps.

In T20Is, Guptill scored two memorable centuries: a rapid 101 not out off 69 balls against South Africa in East London in 2012, and a spectacular 105 off 54 balls against Australia in Auckland in 2018.

While he is best known for his white-ball achievements, Guptill also made significant contributions in Test cricket, amassing 2,586 runs in 47 matches, including three Test centuries: a career-best 189 against Bangladesh in 2010, 109 against Zimbabwe in 2011, and 156 against Sri Lanka in 2015.

Reflecting on his career, Guptill expressed how fulfilling it was to fulfill his childhood dream of playing for the Blackcaps and noted the pride he felt in representing his country in 367 matches. He also extended his gratitude to his teammates and coaches throughout the years.

“I want to thank all my teammates and coaching staff, particularly Mark O’Donnell, who has been with me since the Under-19 level,” Guptill stated. “I also owe special thanks to my manager, Leanne McGoldrick. Your support behind the scenes has never gone unnoticed, and I am forever grateful.”

He expressed heartfelt appreciation for his family, saying, “To my wife Laura and our beautiful children, Harley and Teddy, thank you. Laura, your sacrifices for me and our family have meant the world. You’ve been my biggest supporter, my rock, and my guiding counsel through the ups and downs of the game. I am eternally grateful.”

Finally, he conveyed his appreciation to cricket fans in New Zealand and around the globe for their unwavering support over the years. Guptill’s last appearance for New Zealand was in October 2022.
