Bollywood actors Kriti Sanon, Swara Bhasker, and Pooja Bedi have slammed Uttar Pradesh BJP MLA Surendra Singh over his remark that rapes can be stopped if parents inculcate good values in their daughters. The actors said that his type of mentality needs to change as soon as possible.

In a recent conversation with the media, the BJP MLA from Bairia was talking about the Hathras gang-rape and growing cases of rapes in India. He said rapes can be stopped in India only if parents would teach good values to their daughters. He further added that the country can only become beautiful with the combination of government and good values.

Reacting to Singh’s statement, Bollywood actor Kriti Sanon expressed her anger and tweeted that Singh should hear himself first before saying such things and this type of mindset needs to change. She further added that rather than pointing out daughters, people need to teach some values to their sons too.

While sharing an old video of the BJP MLA in which he can be seen giving his opinion on the Unnao rape case, Swara Bhasker called him a rape defender. She tweeted that Singh is a disgusting man and an old sinner. Pooja Bedi also shared her thoughts on Singh’s remark and tweeted that the BJP needs to cleanse itself of patriarchal lunatics like Surendra Singh. Bedi added that these are the kind of morons and patriarchal lunatics that BJP has in its fold and it is time for a “colon-cleansing” for the ruling party.

On Saturday, Surendra Singh was asked during a press meet about the alarming number of rapes in Uttar Pradesh. The gang-rapes and death of two Dalit women in Uttar Pradesh’s Hathras and Balrampur districts within a week have shaken the entire country, Singh said even if the government stands with the sword, such incidents wouldn’t stop. Such incidents will stop when parents give good values to their daughters and inculcate (good) values in them.

Just like it is the duty of the government to protect citizens, it is the duty of the family and parents to inculcate good values in their children. The parents should teach them polite behaviour. The combination of good values and government can make the country beautiful. There is no other way out, he added.
