Karnataka Exit Polls Predict Uncertain Results

The predictions of Karnataka assembly election results are as confusing as was the campaign. Claims and counter claims from both major parties, Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress have been mirrored by the exit polls as well.
Among the nine surveys conducted by media houses and professional agencies six have given BJP the edge while three put Congress ahead. Only three agencies predicted a clear majority.
India Today-Axix My India’s upper limit (106-118) gives Congress the simple majority in 224 seat House while Republic TV-Jan ki Baat (95-114) and Today’s Chanakya (120) see BJP coming to power on its own.
Other surveys predict a hung assembly with 99 seats for BJP, 88 for Congress and 33 for Janata Dal-Secular (JD-S). In these scenarios JD-s is seen as power broker in a divided house with around 30 seats.

The predictions were made for 222 of the 224 seats in the assembly. Voting in Bengaluru’s Rajarajeshwari Nagar seat was deferred to May 28 after 9,896 voter ID cards were found in a city flat ahead of Saturday’s voting. Election for the Jayanagar seat was put off following the death of the BJP candidate.
The ABP-C Voter, NewsX-CNX, Republic-Jan ki Baat and News Nation exit polls predicted the BJP would be the largest party in the assembly. A similar prediction was made by the regional Dighvijay-Vijayawani survey.
Times Now broadcast two exit polls. One, Times Now-VMR, gave the Congress a narrow lead; the other, Times Now-Today’s Chanakya, gave the BJP a clear majority. The India Today-Axis exit poll said the Congress would be the single largest party.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has reiterated that he was confident of Congress retaining the power. He had said earlier in the day that the BJP’s chief ministerial candidate B S Yeddyurappa was “mentally disturbed” to have claimed that the BJP would form the next government.
Siddaramaiah also criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP for ordering income-tax raids against Congress workers and well-wishers out of desperation because the BJP was sure to lose the elections.

In 2013, the Congress had won 122 seats while BJP and JD(S) got 40 seats each. In the present scenario everybody seems to be waiting for the actual results to be declared by Tuesday afternoon.

63-year-old drunk Swedish national molests IndiGo air hostess on Bangkok-Mumbai flight, arrested
The accused, identified as Klas Erik Harald Jonas Westberg, misbehaved with the air hostess while she was serving meals.

In another mid-air incident, a 63-year-old man from Swedish allegedly molested an air hostess of an IndiGo flight in an inebriated condition. Flight 6E-1052 was en route to Mumbai from Bangkok. The Mumbai Police have arrested the accused.
The accused, identified as Klas Erik Harald Jonas Westberg, misbehaved with the air hostess while she was serving meals. According to the reports, the man continued to misbehave with the air hostess till the time the flight landed at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport.
According to the reports, Westberg behaved unruly with the 24-year-old air hostess when she informed him that there was no seafood onboard. She then served him chicken meals and asked for his ATM card to make a payment through the POS machine.
On the pretext of swiping the card, the passenger held her hand. She said she pulled it back and asked him to enter the card PIN. When the air hostess protested, Westberg stood up from the seat and molested the Indigo staff in front of other passengers, reports state.
The air hostess then alerted the flight captain and warned the passenger of seat No. 28-E of the possible consequences of his behaviour, but to no avail. And when the flight landed, the IndiGo security staff and CISF were informed and later handed the accused to the Sahar Airport Police Station.
The air hostess then filed a police complaint against the passenger on arrival at the Mumbai airport. He was produced before the Andheri Metropolitan Magistrate Court and was released on bail of Rs 20,000.
The accused’s lawyer argued that Westberg suffers from health issues and his body shivers. He cannot hold anything without help. He tried to hold the POS payment card machine when he touched the cabin crew. He did not touch her intentionally, he stated.
Sahar Airport Police Station is investigating the matter.
