In a shocking incident, a four-year-old girl was allegedly raped by police sub-inspector in Rajasthan’s Dausa district on Friday. ASP Ramchandra Singh Nehra stated that the incident was reported from the Lalsot area of Dausa, when the accused sub-inspector, identified as Bhupendra Singh, lured the minor to his room in the afternoon and raped her.

Assistant Superintendent of Police, Ramchandra Singh Nehra asserted that the accused sub-inspector was arrested and was being interrogated. Reports said that the local residents in huge numbers gheraoed the Rahuwas police station, raising slogans against the police. Furthermore, the locals had also beaten up the accused sub-inspector, before he was officially handed over to the police.

On the other hand, Bharatiya Janata Party MP Kirodi Lal Meena also reached the spot and said that there is a huge anger among the people over the incident of rape of a Dalit girl by a policemen in Lalsot. The BJP MP added that he reached the spot to get justice for the innocent child.

MP Kirodi Lal Meena mentioned that the police which has become autocratic due to the incompetence of the Ashok Gehlot government, is not desisting from committing atrocities even on a sensitive occasion like elections. He asserted that the accused Bhupendra Singh is facing severe action and he will soon be dismissed from his job.

The BJP MP further stated that the police along with the family will provide assistance to all the affected members in every possible way. He also mentioned that the family of the survivor would be given compensation for the incident.

Earlier in August, the Rajasthan Police registered a case against a local Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and three others for allegedly gang-raping a woman and molesting her minor daughter in Pali.

The 42-year-old victim, in her complaint, said that she had gone to Sojat a month ago where she met BJP leader Mohan Jat regarding a deal for a plot on a residential project. Apart from the BJP leader, Mahesh Chandak, a businessman, and two women were also present at the spot.

Notably, this horrific incident takes place ahead of the assembly election in the state on November 25. The opposition has often slammed the Ashok Gehlot led government for the increasing incidents of rape in Rajasthan.

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, has blamed faulty detailed project reports (DPRs) and flawed road designs for the increasing number of road accidents in India. Speaking at the Global Road Infratech Summit & Expo (GRIS), he underscored the lack of accountability in road construction and planning, calling for urgent reforms to improve road safety.

Engineering flaws behind rising accidents

Gadkari, known for his candid opinions, stated, “Most of the road accidents happen in the country due to small civil mistakes, faulty DPRs and nobody is held accountable.” He pointed out that poor-quality DPRs and defective planning have led to an alarming rise in road mishaps.

Expressing concern over India’s poor road signage and marking systems, Gadkari urged authorities to take lessons from countries such as Spain, Austria, and Switzerland, where road infrastructure is significantly better.

Call for new strategies and sustainable materials

The minister emphasized the importance of adopting newer technologies and sustainable, recyclable materials in road construction to enhance safety. He urged the road construction industry to devise better strategies for accident prevention.

Disturbing road accident statistics

India recorded a staggering 1,80,000 deaths due to road accidents in 2023, a number Gadkari deemed unacceptable. With road safety being a top priority, he reiterated the government’s commitment to reducing road accidents by 50% by 2030.

Industry voices stress on prioritizing safety

At the event, International Road Federation (IRF) president emeritus K K Kapila echoed Gadkari’s concerns, stating that safety should be integrated into every aspect of road design, construction, and management. He emphasized that initiatives like GRIS aim to move towards a future with zero road fatalities.
