Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to embark on a two-day tour of Sikkim, West Bengal, Bihar, and Uttar Pradesh on May 29 and 30, during which he will inaugurate, dedicate, and lay the foundation stones for several major development projects. The initiatives, collectively worth over Rs70,000 crore, are aimed at boosting infrastructure, connectivity, energy supply, and regional economic growth.
Announcing his visit on social media, PM Modi stated, “Over the next two days, I will be attending programmes in Sikkim, West Bengal, Bihar, and Uttar Pradesh. The development works that will commence over the next two days will bring innumerable benefits for people and strengthen our resolve to build a Viksit Bharat.”
West Bengal to witness launch of CGD project
One of the key highlights of the tour will be the foundation stone laying of the City Gas Distribution (CGD) project in West Bengal’s Alipurduar and Cooch Behar districts. Scheduled for May 29, this Rs1,010 crore project is expected to supply Piped Natural Gas (PNG) to over 2.5 lakh households, more than 100 commercial and industrial establishments, and will also include the setup of around 19 CNG stations.
Ahead of his visit to West Bengal, the Prime Minister expressed his sentiments, stating, “It is always a delight to be among the people of West Bengal. At a programme in Alipurduar, the foundation stone for the CGD project will be laid. This will benefit several households, improve the environment and provide job opportunities for people.”
PM Modi is also scheduled to address a public meeting of the BJP in Alipurduar, where he is expected to highlight the central government’s achievements and criticize the ongoing issues under the current state administration.
Bihar to get key airport infrastructure upgrades
In Bihar, PM Modi will inaugurate the new passenger terminal at Patna Airport, constructed at an estimated cost of Rs1,200 crore. The terminal is designed to handle one crore passengers annually, offering significant relief to the region’s growing aviation demands.
Additionally, the foundation stone will be laid for the civil enclave at Bihta Airport, a Rs1,410 crore project intended to serve the rapidly growing residential and educational zones surrounding Patna.
Calling May 29 a pivotal day for the state, PM Modi remarked, “This great city will get a new passenger terminal which can handle bigger volumes of traffic. The people of Bihar have been waiting for this for many years. The foundation stone for a new civil enclave of Bihta Airport will also be laid. These initiatives will lead to better connectivity and will boost commerce.”
Projects aligned with vision of ‘Viksit Bharat’
With scheduled events across four states, PM Modi’s tour is poised to emphasize the government’s commitment to infrastructure-led growth. The projects span a range of sectors including urban connectivity, fuel supply, transport, and employment generation — all aligned with the long-term development strategy of creating a stronger and more connected India.
